Interesting. So Larry's street car has 390 rwhp and Glen's one of many cup cars has 361.

Makes me wonder how different these 2 engines really are (sorry to resume an old subject) and why the cup engine needs frequent rebuilds while the street car engine doesn't.

There is a good bit of variance dyno-to-dyno. We use SAE correction to help normalize different conditions on the same dyno.

A GT3 street car put down 355 hp, and a 2005 cup (stock) did 360 hp. The GT3 street and Cup engines are very similar. There is alot to be gained with mapping on the Cup car, though.

The 2007 997 GT3 Cup made more power and torque than a stock '05 cup (especially from 7500-8200rpm), but not nearly what the #14 car with GA map and headers made.

If you figured that the dyno was 7 or 8% high, his would be right at factory specs, and mine would be stronger, but that means that your 997 cup car only has about 30 more hp, and that seems low.

the dyno you were on musta been a little off....

we have dynoed GT3 streets in the 350whp area

Leh, I agree about the dyno. Chris's (Rockitman) car is a street GT3 with the europipe exhaust system. Mine was dyno'd with straight pipes & made 15 hp more than Chris's car. If his was making stock or a little more, then mine is quite strong. Still, I would expect that a cup car has a bit more than that.

They don't have quite the top end that your car has, Norm, but they are quite a kick in the corners. Maybe now the bottom will fall out of the 996 Cup Car market & I can get one.

Larry,

I'd definitely give up some top end for a car that handles like that plus I _really_ want a sequential shift. My shifter kart has it and I love it. Plus I love the 997 cup looks...

Wonder what it would be like to drive with my engine in that beauty...

I'm sure most know this, but comparing one dyno figures to the other are like comparing apples to oranges... some are load bearing, etc. Even on the same dyno the numbers will be different from one day to another. Dyno numbers are for bench racers, tuning and breaking in.

Right, they are invaluable for tuning, but they are absolutely applicable when comparing one car to another in back to back tests.

I just re-read this thread, and I can't find it. What did the Cup Car actually do on the dyno?

Arnaud, mine only has 335 rwhp, I was guessing 367 for the 997 Cup since we see around 360 on the 03-05 long rod motor...
Merry Christmas!

On the dynos that bolt onto the rear hubs, our late model cup cars are consistently in the mid to high 380s. Have not run mine on the same dyno as seen above. PMNA told me that these cars make about 410 HP on a freshly rebuilt engine on their engine dyno (mine was run last week). My engine's torque curve heads south after 7K but HP peaks at 7400. I guess the 997 will show more peak power but about the same curve below 7K? Mine has a pretty big dip at about 6100, did they tune that out yet?
