I think I still have Tony's hub out in the shop in the "Ugly enough to keep around" bin if further inspection is desired.
The early 944 spindles with the speedo cable are know to fail.

Gentleman, I have been reading your replies about the bullet hub. I have been in Porsche repair and in racing for over 40. And I have seen many things break . The factory hubs have been a problem for racing I have seen many hubs in the way they have broken. But most the time they break around the center of the hub and not so much in any bearing area. Cast is a week process to begin with, the hubs are made with cut out areas on both sides that add to the weakness, put enough pressure cast ALUMINUM and it will break. For one to say if you put a new stronger hub on a spindle then obviously the next thing to break will be the spindle, that is simply not true and the hub is obviously the weak link . That would be like saying if you put a stronger Rod on your crankshaft then of course the next thing to break will be the crankshaft, or when you install a stronger lower control arm, witch we all have done then I guess the next thing go must be the spindle. I've seen many mishaps the with broken rims because of an accident at high speed impact, and if anything all it did to the spindle was bind it. I would have to ask the person who said the next thing that would break would be the spindle why would that solid steel spindle break? The bullet hub is a very good idea for safety.

MO30 hubs
I spoke to Karl last week. He has them available now and for significantly less than the $909 from the dealer. He is also including the bearings.
My failure looked very similar to the hub photos from Tony's post. I HAD hit a pretty big "pothole" at Daytona where the bus stop joins the NASCAR oval at the previous event. Hub failed during the second session of the following event at Mid Ohio. The ABS ring cracked too.
Had the typical drivers side spindle failure on my old '85.1 race car too. No impact involved, just failed.

Joe, do you know if any of Karl's retailers are selling the hubs? Might be a great opportunity for group buy but we've learned from experience that Karl doesn't run them himself.
I've got to think a decent order of 10 pair or so would reduce his machining costs..

Stuttgart motors has been making and selling the hubs since last year , the hubs are made of 7075 aluminum the strongest made, and come with wheel studs and bearings installed for under $600 each, group discounts are available. Stuttgart motors -- 859 255 7424
