It looks too long (and/or narrow) and I don't like the livery that much. However, if it wins, it's beautiful!

I'd have to second both of those statements.

A sponsor is a sponsor, even if it means painting this spectacular car a disgusting color.

Can we imagine this car in Gulf or Sunoco livery? My bloody word we can, and the yellow doesn't even come close. Luckily, there will be more teams and more cars to come.

I'm hoping they come out roaring at Laguna Seca.

There was one car in Daytona Prototype class race in Homestead that was painted with GULF colors...

I have no recollection whether it was Pontiac or whatever (it was not Porsche) but damn that thing looked awesome just because of that!

If you haven't seen the latest R&T, take a look. Articles on the Cayenne S, the history of mid-engined Porsches (race & street) by Paul Frere, and interviews with Hartmut Kristen (Motorsports Director and Dr. Ing. Frank-Steffen Walliser (GM, Motorsports Strategy about the RS Spyder.

I liked it best in white, but if DHL gave me the money I'd paint my car yellow too.... definitely better looking and cooler than a Daytona prototype in any color or livery!

It was the Ford-Crawford of Westernesse Racing. They competed in several early-season races. The Gulf tie-in is that Chad McQueen was one of the car's drivers. Here is a pic from Laguna Seca...

Most Porsche fans look fondly at the Gulf livery because of what it represents to the history of Porsche racing. The blue/orange was, in fact, a rather poor color scheme then (and now), more evocative of a carrot-juice-stained baby boy's blanky rather than a fire-breathing 540 hp racecar.

That's a fact? This is so subjective. I like it. The yellow isn't my fav but it's a Porsche Factory LM2 car. How sweet is that? Now we have something to cheer about on Sunday on the speed channel. I like the DHL Porsche.

There are also people who like the results of Michael Jackson's previous 10 nose jobs and his most recent chin.

p.s. I suspect Jacko also likes the Gulf livery, but probably for different reasons than you.

It isn't my favorite either, but if it performs as well in 2006 as the 917 performed 35 earlier, I suspect we'll revere the yellow and red just as we revere the carrot-juice-stained baby boy's blanky.

That depends on how you define "Porsche Factory LM(P)2 car." It is a car engineered and developed by PAG, but it will be campaigned as a privateer. ...likely akin the GT3 RSRs campaigned by AJR.

FYI and FWIW, for 2006 one race is on Friday, six races are on Saturday and three races are on Sunday. Also, five races will be televised on CBS; Speed will televise the balance.

As do I. I'll post a pic or two here next Thursday after the Laguna Seca test day concludes.

The color scheme doesn't bother me at all as it distracts me from the fact that the basic car is so ugly. What's up with the nose? There is nothing aside from the Porsche label on its side that visually identifies it as a Porsche. Now that I'm done b........, I know the car's aerodynamics have been designed to take advantage and comply with the current ACO rules for Le Mans. Let's hope it wins so I can forget all this.
