Yes, PL did do a fair amount of driving in the movie "Winning," I'm not sure if he actually drove a Can-Cam during the filming.

Yes indeed, I believe he is the oldest winner of the 24 hours of Daytona.

He's had an increasingly tough time obtaining decent results during the past few years. In 2001, he was in a GT1 with Gunnar Jeannette, Wayne Jackson and his longtime racing partner Michael Brockman. The car DNFd after only a handful of laps.

This year, he DNFd again, but the most notable part of his 2005 Daytona story was that his car burned during the Test Days weekend. Recalling Richard Pryor's bit about fire being an excellent motivator ("I did the 100-yard dash in 4.3!"), Newman managed to extricate himself rather quickly.

In a 2003 Trans-Am series one-off, he proved he still has some speed by running 5th at Lime Rock (his home track).

Here is a picture of the car taken in the paddock Wednesday evening. Not great resolution, sorry.

Does anyone here think that the front of the car looks a little like a Ford Edsel?

I love that image. You think it's lousy resolution but to me it looks like art.

Me too... Maybe a more appropriate color scheme considering the nose would be:

Deetz.

Just to add to the "weird" rules some of the Le Mans cars had to follow, not only did they require a passenger seat, but they also required a spare tire.

You can see this in a pic I took earlier this year at a local Vintage race where a 917 came out to play.

Looks funny as hell, and I can't imagine someone stopping to swap one of those monsters for the spare, but it was there.

It wins, therefore it's beautiful, no matter how long and/or narrow, or what color/livery it carries.
It was nice to see Porsche back....1998 to now was WAY too long of a wait!
