Nope-- I only saw the sprints, did not come out for the enduro on Sunday. Three (looking like newly built) 996s looked very fast in C Stock since the scruts have done a fabulous job scaring off the 993 RSCS clones.
In the top GT group, there was a terrific, very tactical, race: Early overall leader was IMSA Cup racer and local hotshoe Tom Pank in his '05 Cupcar, second Bill Chadwick in his very fast 935K GT1 clone, third John Ellis in his factory 993 GT2 Evo; Pank lost it at some point storming down the chute, which put Chadwick into the lead. Toward the end , the turbo car seemed to go off mechanically a bit and Ellis passed for the lead. I left with Ellis and Chadwick 1-2. In the top group that was running I saw Rick DeMan looking strong in his early GT3R, lot of good Cup guys in GTC-- Mike Levitas of TPC was fourth early on, didn't see him toward the end. I think Larry Herman started 12th or so in his rent-a-Cup and moved up steadily--he seemed like 5th or 6th when I packed it in, but I am not sure how he finished. A lot of familiar faces not there-- Orwicz, etc. Sorry, this is not a complete or necessarily accurate report, it's a memory dump.

Pank had a ball joint fail in the chute and did an amazing save of the car overall. He put the car back together for the group 1 enduro on sunday.

Hey Lee, sorry that I did not get a chance to see you. I qualified 7th out of 12 cup cars, and finished 5th. Not bad for a 6 year layoff and my first time in a Cup Car. In the enduro I gridded 4th, and was running strong in the beginning when a car went off in front of me and threw a large stone directly under my car, which smashed one of the radiator lines, and the car started overheating. Needless to say my day was over very quickly, but that's racing. I saw many people that I haven't seen for years, and had an awesome time. I guess that I am back. My only problem now is what car to buy for next year!

The group 1 sprint was very entertaining. Ellis came up to take the lead after starting mid-pack. He ended up 2nd behind Chadwick, but got the worker's choice for a great race. Pank and Chadwick put on another good show Sunday in the enduro. A great weekend (at least as view from T1 where I was stationed ;-)

This was my first club race and first time on the track in my new (to me) 2000 Cup Car which I just bought from TPC.
I didn't qualify that well (mid pack out of 10 Cup Cars) and did not finish the sprint due to a failed tie rod. However, during the race I was able to jup a few folks on the start and ended up running 3rd I think for a while. During the race I had a fast lap of 1.17.3 which would have placed me as the first or second Cup Car in the Enduro.
My car was out of commission so Karl Salnoske offered to share his 2001 car in the Enduro. I took his car out in practice on Sun AM and was doing well, several laps in the low to mid 1:17 range. Around lap 10, Ray Williams co-driver (www.lawsonaschenbach.com) tried a late pass into T1 and hits me in the rear right on the tow hook. Not too much damage to Karl's car (we think) but it does destroy the rear bumper, rear wheel and tire, and disrupts the rear right toe setting which was otherwise perfect thanks to TPC. Aschenback gets a 13 and I get an introdution to PCA Club Racing.
I'll be back next weekend at VIR!

A huge "well done" to RSRRacer for a great showing in your first race. I have a hunch this will end your DE days as you will want to build atrophy room.
Larry, Sounds like you placed well and got back in the racing saddle without a problem. Bad luck on the enduro but as you said racing is full of this type of thing and you had plenty of track/race time up to that point.

Enduro: I had the good sense to break early in the race ~ 15 mins in with an electrical issue.
Kudos to Patti for not collecting me when the car died in turn 6 while right on my bumper.
Thumbs down to the towtruck crew who flat pulled me from turn 2 into the first cutoff road, pulled me 10 feet in and then jumped out, unhooked me and drove off back to the paddock without a word, leaving abandoned in no-man's land. They didn't seem to be in a hurry, just wandered off without a backwards glance. They could've at least told me what they were going to do or not.
