Default AIM Speed Sensor Install

I'm looking for some suggestions about how to do the speed sensor install for the AIM. My units in and connected and we're trying to figure out the how the heck to install the bugger. Front or Back and what did people do about the gear and bracket setup?

Or did anyone just take the signal off the speedo and calibrate it for MPH?

We welded the magnet onto one of the flat washers for the CV boot on the diff, then crapped out a simple L-bracket for the sensor to bolt to the diff.

Then we epoxied a new magnet into the magnet cup to replace the magnet which had ceased to be, after exposing it to welding.

Thankfully the magnet from the cheap pick-up screwdrivers fits perfectly. No issues since.

We're useing the auto-calibrated (calculated) gear.

Ditto Vaughn's comment minus the welding

Similar deal there - I was able to use a couple of unused tapped holes on the side of the transaxle to mount a piece of aluminium angle to hold the sensor and used a small rare earth magnet directly on the inboard CV joint housing.

I lost one magnet when i rode the ripple strips so now its got a big cable tie over the top and haven't had any problems with it since.

I'd origionally planned to use the magnet with the threaded base that came with it and weld a tag to the CV keeper plate but this ended up being simpler - no welding required.

Likewise using the calculated gear function.

I'd switch to a regular Hall sensor and use the CV joint bolts to trigger the hall sensor. The AIM only requires a square wave to for the input. Welding on a magnet makes it loose it magnatism as does placing it directly into ferris material.

I welded a tab on one of the CV keeper thingies, tapped it and mounted the magnet on that. On the tranny I made a little bracket that uses the dif cover bolts.

Great info. Hopefully we'll get it done tomorrow. Again I find myself bowing low to the font of knowledge that is Rennlist, thanks one and all!
