Based on the eBay listing, I think the previous owner is a rennlist member from Wisconsin. IIRC, this car was for sale about a year ago by the rennlist member.

I don't think so Lewis. I know the car you're talking about. That "other" Rubystone Red Carrera Cup has a completely different history.

He includes a link to an article about the US Carrera Cup cars and the Andial converted examples, but this is clearly a Euro car. His headline calls it a "1990 Porsche 911 964 RS Euro Carrera Cup Race Car". The 964 RS and the Carrera Cup cars are two different (although closely related) Porsches. Porsche production numbers show the 964 RS produced in 1991, with the 964 Carrera Cup cars being produced in 1992..........

This car is being sold by a guy by the name of Tom Pisello. I got to know Tom a little when I bought his featherlite trailer earlier this year. He mentioned at the time he was going to sell his cup car as well. I mistakenly thought he meant a 996 cup car not a 964. He seems to be a very respectable person who just doesn't have time for his toys right now. I think Tom has had his car serviced by Troysport here in Orlando, which is where I picked up the trailer from. I was just speaking with a couple of guys yesterday at Zotz Garage about Tom and his car being for sale. (It's on PCA.org as well) If any of you get interested in this car need and need any help with it let me know. Darren

Off hand, I thought an "unmodified" 964 Cup would race in D. This one seems to race in GTC1. I'm confused.

The Euro cups race in GTC1. The USA Carerra cups (the 20 Andial conversion cars that were street legal) race in D.

There are no other cars in GTC1 other than the factory original 1990-1994 Carrera 2 Cup racing version.

The Euro cups are significantly faster. Bob Scotto just did a 2:06 and Burger a 2:07 at the Glen, vs. ~2:11s for the best D class Carerra Cups (street conversions). I think some of the big differences include that the GTC1 cars are running slicks, a lower weight (2425 vs. 2760), and I think different gearing than the USA street version (not 100% sure on that one though).

Colin, the gearboxes are the same. The Euro versions are allowed to run at 2425 ? , but the reality is that it is hard to get them much below 2525 or so. They do get to run with slicks and the chasis are a tad stiffer due to roll bar welding. They also run the 3.8 RSR wing. Other than that and cool little aero mirrors, they are essentially the same. Some of the allowances in D stock class are actually more liberal like the suspension and exhaust which are free in stock, but must be spec. in GTC1. Alan Noveck has done high 2:10's in his D class US Cup at WG, and Bob has done some low 2:06's in GTC1. Bob and Jeff are both among the most accomplished and experienced racers in PCA and that also likely accounts for a big chunk of the lap time differences between the 2 versions.

As long as the car is setup well and has a decent winning history, does it
matter whether it is an ex-cup car, or a street car converted into a racer.
