Default Watkins Glen PCA Race

Most of you probably already know, but I thought I would mention that registration opened up on Monday for the Watkins Glen race.

I hope to make it up there, but only to watch and see some old friends.

I'll be there for my 2nd race as a rookie. I was really happy with my performance last year, and I had the greatest time.

Curt;

Yup! Peter just purchased a 944S2 set up for F Class. I think there will be a few of us
at the Clash. I am a Niagara Region member.

I am heading to Watkins Glen from Colorado and have never driven the track. Does anyone have a track diagram with recommended lines they could send me?

Michael;
I have many many laps at WGI. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to help. That being said, they have made some track modifications to accomodate Indy cars and I have not seen those changes yet. A few of these links may help:

I may have a print out from our class room instruction I could send. PM me your address.

Michael, it's worth the trip. It is a world class track, and a very clean facility. The track is everything people say it is and more; fast, challenging, a lot of elevation changes and no twiddley stuff. Just don't fixate on the guard rails. And with your car, you can full-bore the entrance to the esses (turn 2), so it is basically flat-out from turn 1 to the bus stop. Just work up to it, and have fun.

Michael, as a fellow E class racer, who has a special relationship with those pesky, I mean, wonderful, 944 turbos. I have to tell you these guys are pulling your leg. The Glen rewards those who use their brakes very hard and a lot.

I would suggest heavy braking at turns 1 and 2 with a fairly cautious entrance to the esses, and don't forget to brake at the 800 marker for the entrance to the bus stop. The exit out of the bus stop is pretty slow also, so I would just coast through it. On second thought, I would brake there too. Heavy sustained braking into the Laces, you need to start braking about where the Nascar section leaves the full course, continuing the braking all the way around the apex. Finally a little bit of throttle here, followed by full braking around the toe of the boot. That's a 1st gear corner leading to a hill, so I would just leave your 944 in 1st to use all of that torque. Start braking again when you reach the crest of the hill to set up for the heel. Maybe shift to 2nd here, but you'll be hard on the brakes for the off-camber left, so maybe just leave it in 1st. A few more hard braking corners and you're on the front straight. I wouldn't go above 3rd gear here as the car is liable to get very loose and you'll miss your braking point for turn one.

If you like, I'd be glad to show you the line. Anything to help a fellow E class racer

Hey Cris,

Thanks for the information. Out here in the west there is strong competition in E and F. Is it similar in the Northeast?
