Watkins Glen 2:01.2 (typically top 10 overall, despite being in GT4R)
Lime Rock 56.1 (tied with Rick Deman for the fastest time ever run at LR in a PCA race)
Mosport 1:30.4
Pocono North 54.6

All that in a 2.8L 914/6 (maybe 300hp?). Having ridden with Keith at Watkins Glen I can attest it is an unholy experience. I swear he hardly braked for the busstop.

Oh, and he a very down to earth and nice guy.
All I can say about Keith is I remember him being possessed at Brian Redman's 50-50 event at Watkins Glen in 1998. I swear he ran sub 2:00 in that 914 for qualifying. The starting grid for the feature race was comical. The positions were something like:

1 - 962
2 - 962
3 - 917
4 - 935
5 - 914 (Keith!)
6 - 935
etc...

As far as a PCA racer that has taken club racing and used it as a base for something bigger, I think there is only one real choice at this point. Kevin Buckler with The Racer's Group. How many ever get to say they raced and won at LeMans, 24hrs of Daytona, etc, etc.

There are lots of really good drivers that could give the top pros a run for their money, and there are guys and gals that won't ever win a race but try hard, have a good time and lend a hand (or tool) at a moment's notice. The later is really what it is about. The crap that apparently went on at Lime Rock is crazy and hopefully will never be repeated in any way shape or form.

I'll throw in a couple of names -
Russ Castagna (previously in C, now in GTC1)
and Kerry Singley (I)

How can a 914/6 hang with 935s and 917s? Were his skills that superior? How light was the thing?

If anyone has pics of this car, I would love to see them.

I'm thinking along the same lines a Greg, but there's another name to consider.

Mike Levitas came up through Club Race, and was still running PCA Potomac time trials a year ago. This year he posts a class win in the Rolex Grand Am. Not bad progression!
Mike is another guy who is totally grounded in the club scene, and will spend time talking to anyone in the paddock about everything from turbo work to general prep to the politics of Grand Am and more. Not quite in KB's league yet, but there's time!

Just from the limited number of club races I've actually witnessed, Rick Deman, (I'm a bit prejudiced on this), great car control, very fast.

Steve Sorvino (sp.?), 951. Dan Jacobs.

These are all northeast guys.

Well, not really "hang" with them. The 962s were running the 1:40's, the 935s were in the 1:50's and Keith was like a 1:58 or 59...

Manny, you could add Bill Richter in I...even in G he's right up there. Also, depends on the track... Jim Lewis kicked everybody's butt at Waktins Glen, but Dwayne is untouchable at Summit.

An interesting deduction from all this would be that PCA Club Racing is still pretty regional in scope
(and that's not to discredit any of these drivers -- as has already been said there are many terrific drivers in it)

Which leads to another question:

What are the races that bring together the best from various regions?

Sebring? Road America? Watkins Glen? Mid-Ohio?

I would say all of them but in my experience the first race of the season at Sebring brings the most since there are few schedule conflicts with the northern racers in Feb.

The Glen gets a good turnout accross the NE. Some of the pro teams use the PCA race as a tune-up which makes the upper run groups a bit interesting. I remember a couple years ago there were like 20 new Cup Cars running.... pretty wild.

Another race to add Road Atlanta brings a lot of racers from long distances and many pro teams.

How sick would it be to have a runoffs type event? I know, i know.... most of the guys just do this for fun. Well good, those guys will stay home and only the most addicted, fastest guys would show up!
