TRG goes DP racing in '05!

Looks like THe Racers Group will run Crawford DPs in Grand Am next year AND two 2005 cup cars in GT.
I guess the Grand Am will squeeze to a two class format if the cup will run GT, vs SGS.
I wonder what powerplant will be in the DP. Probably not Porsche unless Brumos got around to a v8 down in their skunkworks!
Man those liveries are GREAT!

According to further research, there will be a Porsche powerplant in the Crawford chassis and the 2005 DP rules dropped the "6/8 cyl engine" stipulation. Meaning that MAYBE a detuned v10 could find its way into the car.

My best friend is the artist/driver for TRG and he showed me the DP drawings a bit ago and really nice! Kevin is going all out for this venture. Going to be an exciting series in 05!

A 2005 Cup car, is that the 997 Cup car that is offered on the Porsche website? I was always under the impression that on 30 cars were going to be built for the '05 supercup season. 25 for teams, and 5 spares?
Am I wrong? I hope so, I sure would love to see those new cars in action next year.

Next year in GA there will be two classes. All GT Porsche cars will have to run a Cup car motor and the 996GT3RS will have a weight penalty added.

I spoke with Ryan Dettling at TRG. He says the DP engine program is still up in the air and the GT cars will be 996 based as they won't be getting the 997 based cars untill the 2006 season.

I don't think they have announced their ALMS plans yet.

I bet they don't run ALMS, unless they get some serious sponsorship... although they d have the two 996gt3rsr which you can't run in Grand Am.

I saw the drawings at Cal. Speedway a week ago. They will have suits and helmets with the same cool scheme. I asked about getting a suit like theirs for about $6K . It would be cool to show my team support but not THAT cool. I could go for the helment graphics though... can someone mention the word "Merchandising" to Kevin?

A very reliable source told me that TRG will in fact be running Pontiac motors in the DP's. I wish, like most of us on this board, that they would run Porsche Power 8 cy or v10s, but that plan is for the future.
