Bill Walczak was involved in a pretty heavy impact on Saturday during practice. I'm not sure of his current medical condition, but they took him to the hospital with a possible broken ankle or leg.

Sunday was great. The track regained a lot of grip. I left my Group 2 results at home and can't remember who won each class.

I believe Bill has a fractured right leg. We are all wishing him a speedy recovery.

Bill - if you need anything, drop me a line. I'm not far from Annapolis.

Regards,
Sam

The last report I heard was that Bill had a spiral fracture in his left leg above the ankle. He was transported to Baltimore for surgery at Johns Hopkins.

His accident was a major bummer to a really nice guy.

What happened to Bill? Was it a mechanical or single car incident? I hope he recovers quickly.

Greg,

I don't have the full details but, he went off in Turn 10 and, I think, hit the inside wall. Another competitor who saw the whole thing says he was being passed by another car. Not sure if they touched. The left front of his car was badly mangled, and the driver's footwell area migrated several inches towards the center of the car.

Bill W... sorry about the crash... looked pretty nasty... we all hope you get better soon and can get back on the horse...

I didn't see the incident because I had just come in from the Group 2 session and was changing out of my driving suit (it was very hot and humid on Saturday before the rain came) but a friend on mine was in the observation tower (more like a stand) at the pit enterance at the inside of turn 10 and saw Bill's off. He said it looked as if Bill came in really hot, went straight off, missed the gravel trap, slid across the damp grass (it rained Friday night) and hit the tire wall head on. The problem is there is a berm after the tire wall. He said it was a really hard hit. The sad thing is, if the gravel trap was bigger (as it should be) Bill would only have had to spend an hour or so picking gravel out of the underside of his car.

I saw his car in the paddock later in the day and the damage looks pretty bad.

D class.... Steve Berlack and Bob DiMarco.

My best to Bill.... he's had a lifetime of bad fortune with these cars and is someone that inspires me. My Best.

I had the unfortunate experience of arriving at the track immediately after Bill's incident. The racer I was helping (Jerome) was setup in the paddock right next to Bill's spot. His car was pretty banged up, but IMHO held up very well in what had to be an extremely hard, direct hit.

I too wish him a speedy recovery

Only Jeff and I showed up in GTC-1 which was a little disappointing considering there are at least ten GTC-1 cars on the East coast now in easy tow range to Summit.

Sprint: Jeff qualified at 1:22's (pole position) and I was at 1:24's (seventh on grid). I lost a few positions do to a bad start and raced Bob DiMarco for the whole race but could not get around him (or I should say "stay" around him). I never saw Jeff after the start and he won the Group 2 sprint.

Enduro: All cars were mixed together in the enduro. Jeff did very well amongst the very fast GT3 Cups and GT cars and ran with them. I dropped out midway with an oil leak.

Jeff won the 2004 Overall Summit Point workers choice award. Congrats Jeff.
