Hi everyone. I am coming across from the UK to do a Skip Barber Course at the Glen next weekend. Any tips from people familiar with the track?
I do have to remeber that the gear lever is on the right hand side.
All advice appreciated.

Try This!

I've done many a mile there, as this document might illustrate. Enjoy the read, and the drive!

Much time is lost by braking into turn two. You lose speed through the esses all the way to the bus stop that turns into a few seconds. Many say they keep it flat to the floor from the exit of turn one all the way to the bus stop but I still lift a bit prior to turn two. Enjoy!

If I had to give one tip that would make you faster sooner it would be the camber is greater than you think. Turn one and the exit from the bus stop (small bowl) will handle more speed than you think possible. Beyond that Johns link will get you the basics.
Have fun!

Here is a warm up lap around the track. Its a big file, if you don't have broadband, forget it, its 43 megs. WGI , June 2002 . The quality is not great either, but its the only camera I have!

The Skip Barber instructors will give you all the tips you need.
You will really enjoy WGI. It's probably my favorite track - big & fast.
Have lots of safe fun!

I had a great time at the Skip Barber course. Very safe although I did tap the wall after a spin coming out of turn 9 (bad one to apex early). Broke a steering rod but did lead to the full NASCAR practice emergency drill (they are racing at the glen next weekend). Firetrucks and ambulance. Only thing damaged was my pride.
Actually, I may been trying to qualify for the HWFM racing team as my lap had been going very well up to that point - needed to come back into line and recognise my limitations.
Thanks for the tips.
And for the record, I didn't lift into or out of 2. That barrier on the right does look scary at the top of the esses though doesn't it?

Turn 9, the off-camber left hand turn has claimed many a fender (and the rest of the car too). I got sideways in that turn my first time at Watkins. Scrubbed off a bunch of rubber, but no blue paint on the car. Later that year, (my third Glen experience), I locked up the front wheels and never made the turn - went straight off and came to rest against the armco on the right side.
Under the "every cloud has a silver lining" theory (or, every dent requires an upgrade), though I did manage to drive the car home, the relatively slight damage resulted in a wide body conversion and a terrific paint job (not to mention several other improvements, i.e., big reds, full coil over suspension, etc.).
The great thing about Skip Barber is if you break a car, they roll out another and away you go. Glad you had fun.

Amen to that Richard.... when I missed the apex on the uphill at Lime Rock and crested the hill all out of shape I learned really quick. Nothing like getting right back on the horse in someone else's car.

Turn 10 at the Glen also created a bit of grief for students. Either from not getting the speed right at entry and going off on the right or lifting mid-corner and auguring in on the left.
