Default Victory in the 963

Since this is essentially the main GT section. Congratulations is in store for Porsche, Porsche Motorsports, and all the Penske team for taking the 963 to the top of the podium for the first time since 1969!

Well, considering the 963 didn't exist in 1969, that is a big deal!

But the 962's swept Daytona many times since 1984.

BIG congrats to Porsche for the 963 win that was literally back and forth with Cadillac for 2nd.
On the last lap Cadillac fell 2 sec behind getting caught in traffic.

I chuckled when with 3 mins left the Cadillac was held up in the one corner by the GT Porsche...hehe. But given another 10 mins of racing that Caddy might have caught and passed the 963.

Crazy that the checkered flag came out early...

Exactly. Nail biter to the end as Cadillac had the pace to win.

Weird with the white flag and checker out 1 lap early. Everyone ignored it and did another fast lap just to be sure.

24 hours and 1 sec between the leaders in the closing laps. Heads up driving by Nasr.

Nasr had a big moment heading into the infield on the penultimate lap. Great race. Amazing how 24hr endurance racing has evolved into a 24hr sprint race.

I like how the announcers highlighted the difficulty of the brake by wire execution in the 963, even though Nasr had a brilliant handle on the issue, when it happened.

Watching Live Timing, I switched the field to Last Lap Time from Best Lap Time, and the consistency and speed of all at the front were incredible! Tom Blomquist turned fastest lap of the race, 777 laps in!

The number 6 car received multiple penalties for "exceeding powertrain parameters". What parameters are they measuring? Drivers and crew didn't seem to know the cause or the solution. The 6 car was the car to beat until the penalties.

The 963 #6 car ran closer parameters for drivetrain over the curbs at the LeMans chicane that allowed exceeding the limit of energy output (read spinning the drive wheels when airborne over the curbs).

Fixed when a software update to allow more margin was transmitted to the cars mid-race.

The team said the first issue was due to what you described, but the remaining penalties stemmed from a different issue supposedly.

IMSA Statement on Finish of 2024 24-Hour Race at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January, 29, 2024) -- Due to an officiating error in race control, IMSA inadvertently announced and subsequently displayed the white flag with under three minutes remaining in the race. At the end of the lap, the race-leading No. 7 GTP car then received the checkered flag with 1 minute, 35.277 seconds still remaining, ending the race short of the planned 24 hours by effectively one lap.

Based on Article 49 of the 2024 IMSA Sporting Regulations and Standard Supplementary Regulations, should the checkered flag be inadvertently or otherwise displayed before the leading car completes the scheduled number of laps or before the prescribed time has been completed, the race is nevertheless deemed ended when the flag is displayed.

From Autosport:

"The car was hit by a series of penalties through the race for what IMSA described as “failure to adhere to the controlled powertrain parameters”.

What that actually meant was that the car was sporadically operating outside the torque curve laid down in the BoP.

The four violations were for two slightly different issues, but the cause was almost certainly the same: Penske believed it was the result of an incorrectly calibrated driveshaft torque sensor."

That’s pretty cool. Looking forward to the day Musk’s computer chip implant can transmit driving skill upgrades mid-race.
