If it even gets that far. Alonso was pretty vocal in his criticism of Honda during the ill fated years w/ their PU at McLaren and a Honda failure costing him a really good shot at the Indy500 win, to the point that Honda wouldn’t agree to power his Indy ride in 2000. Maybe (hopefully) it’s water under the bridge at this point but I can totally see Honda wanting their own driver in the seat (ie, anyone but Alonso) as a condition of the deal and/or Alonso preferring to walk away rather than deal with them again. Who knows, maybe the combination of Stroll’s money and Newey’s genius will cause everyone to put on their big boy pants but this is F1.

I’m also skeptical of Newey having yet another massive win with the new cars. Yes, the guy has proven himself over decades in the sport as arguably the greatest car designer but it’s not like EVERY car of his was the best on the grid. He got things massively right in 2022 when everyone else got them really wrong and I’m sure that he’ll get things right again in 2026 but are we really expecting everyone else to botch it so badly again? If the car is just “really good” and not the class of the field does Stroll start asking wtf he’s paying for?

It's kind of hard to expect that he would have the best car every single year for 26 years as a head designer, but with 13 drivers' championships, and 12 constructors' championships....that means he has nearly 50% of the time..... insane. He's due respect far beyond the 2022 season results.

Well, tomorrow is Tuesday so we'll see if that news conference at AM will produce the story of the year so far...

I just want to know the numbers Newey will get in this new deal. I've read everything from 100m for 3 years to 200m for 5 years to an ownership stake in the team.

Ollie Bearman was confirmed to be the HAAS driver for Bacu.

If Sir Adrian hits the bullseye with his Aston car design, we could see half the grid have a legit shot of winning a race. Great for the fans.

The BBC seems to think Aston is paying Newey around $39 million a year.

I've also read about an equity stake as part of the deal.

Lawrence Stroll coming home from work: "Honey, are you home".

Mrs. Stroll: "Yes dear, I'm in the kitchen."

Lawrence Stroll: "Guess what I bought little Lance today? A Newey."

Right? I had to fact check that as it seemed crazy when you consider the "history of f1" not just the time he's been in F1. I don't know what the win percentage is while he's been in F1, but it's got to be over 1 in 3 races at least.

Interesting acknowledgement of SKY coverage from a fellow Brit.

Newey was more than honest as it related to all the topics he discussed in that article. Thanks for sharing.

Remember this? Lawrence probably went on a slow burn after this and two years later he got his revenge. Never mock a billionaire!
