Floor jack recommendation
#46
I had one 1.5T HF for about 10 years that died and I was unable to rebuild it.
I replaced it with another one.
The only concern I have is that the lift portion sometimes twists and gets caught on the outside rails -- and this sometimes means I can't get the jack out from under my low profile cars, with out jacking up and untwisting it as it lowers.

Drifting
what I mean by twists is there is an outer frame (the base) -- and then the inner (the arm) -- normally the arm lowers and fits within the base. Sometimes the arm twists or rotates sideways slightly, and when it lowers the bolt head which sticks out of the arm contacts the base. If this occurs --- I have to raise the arm again (and the car) and guide it down with a little side pressure
to get the arm to miss the base frame.

I bought the HF jack twice a long time ago, and both times they started leaking w/in 6 months. They took them back both times, but what a pain.
AC Hydraulics DK20 I've had 15+ years, and it has been the best jack I've ever had.
I bought a brunhoezl to take to the track, wanting something lighter; very well made, but I haven't been enamored with it. I like the dk20 better, and it may have a lower profile.
AC Jackstands have been the best by far. I think they're ESCO now; I ordered a 2nd set for my shop. I also ordered 2 jackpoint stands to try.

+1 on the Arcan 3 ton from Costco. Mine has been running strong for 17 years minus the missing button that connects the two handle pieces (an issue that happened during a cross country relo). It's still functional, though, and hasn't leaked a drop of oil. They do go on 'sale' every other year, wish I would have bought two of them when they were only $100...

I have been following this thread because I am looking for a new floor jack to take to the track. I wanted one with a minimum lift height as close to 3" as possible since my 3-1/2" jack really doesn't cut it anymore after I went to 18" wheels (car was already lowered a good bit). Plus, I wanted to keep the weight down as much as possible - 35 lbs or under is the goal. An integral carry handle would be nice, too. Came down to these two:
1.5 ton Ultra-Low-Profile Lightweight High Performance Aluminum Racing Jack with RAPID PUMP (harborfreight.com) $300 at HF
The HF unit surely has to be better quality but the Amazon one looks okay too (did pretty well with reviews/ratings). I don't like the name of the Amazon unit , but fortunately it doesn't seem to be on the product anywhere. Both weigh about 35 lbs.

The amazon is probably the same as this HF jack, which is the one I use at the track. It works ok, if I'm doing anything other than change a wheel I use a jackstand.

OP here. Wound up with the HF Daytona aluminum 3 ton. Works well for about $200 and gets under the car with the Jackpoint lift pads with the standard 20 inch wheels. When I have my 18 inch track wheels on (Cayman S, no PASM/SPASM) I need to back the rear wheels onto a couple of blocks ro have enough clearance. It's about 42 lbs; light enoughtto haul to track. Overall I'm happy. I see the quality but don't think it's worth the multiplicative price point for some of the others recommended in the thread.
