Looking for a floor jack for the usual things - swapping track and street wheels, a few yearly pad replacements, etc. Most of this will get done at home but will also use it for pad replacement at the track if needed. Probably will get used 12 - 15 times a year. Looking for compact/light as I haul my own crap to the track in a Cayman. Any favorites? While we're at it, how about jack stands? I'm planning on the Rennline pucks.

 

If you have the space, I fully recommend the Jackpoint jackstands. Very secure, and even made in the USA. If you want conventional stands, the Esco stands work well.

 

I've had a few of these over the years. Pretty low profile and fits easily in the frunk of a Cayman/911.
I have a higher capacity floor jack in the shop but the one above is ok for taking to the track.

 

Jack prices sure have come up over the years. I'm still using my 1.5 ton harbor freight jack that I bought when I started this fun. I remember the last Time I saw a price it was around $60+. They have those sales numerous times throughout the year. Does what you ask and its easy and light enough to carry to the track.

 

For all the corners at once work, once you get a quicklift you'll wonder why you didn't buy them years ago.

 

If you’re not changing wheels I wouldn’t bother hauling a jack to the track.

Buy a real one that you use at home with jack stands

For the amount of times you’ll need to change pads there are plenty of them to borrow in the paddock.

If you want something really nice and convenient look at a quick jack.

 

This one from Harbor Freight if you need one that will fit in the Cayman to take to the track. I don't think that high end products exist in this market anymore, they are all the same cheap China stuff with different sticker brands on the same jack.

But for home/garage you can't beat the Quickjack.

 

Having bought and broken (passively or actively) lots of jacks from various vendors, I would suggest you buy something that will last a lifetime, is fully serviceable, and also made in the USA.

Agreed, IMO its time we all stopped buying cheap crap from China and bought USA products where possible, even if it is more expensive.

I buy zip ties and duck tape from Harbor Freight (this sounds bad.......) but any tools they sell are made out of balsa wood and spit.

1. For the home garage, the Daytona jack line at Harbor Freight is really good for the money. It's heavy as hell though.
2. For something lighter to bring to the track, checkout Arcan 3 ton aluminum from Costco.
3. ESCO jack stands are really good.

Cheap, lightweight, disposable.
This one's lasted 10 years of track use.
Quality is no worse than any other 'affordable' jack, since they're all made in the same factory...
But don't skimp on the jackstands!

Last time I bought an other-than--Snap-On American tool, it was a pair of pliers from Home Depot.
Paid $5 for a name brand (Crescent?)
They were SH*T. The 99c Chinese oneswere much better.
I prefer to buy American, and I don't mind paying more for quality, but it pisses me off to pay more for junk.
