Default Production Date on Michelin Cups

Just got a replacement Michelin Cup tire from Tire Rack, and the production date on it is 3801. Anyone else get Cups recently - what types of dates do you have? If newer, which warehouse did they ship from (mine came from the Delaware warehouse).

I've got 4 new ones down in the garage delivered 2 days ago from the Nevada warehouse. I can't see a production date on them. Where do you see the date?

Look on the outer facing sidewall. The date is at the end of a stamped string which starts with 'DOT'

Ok, let me get this straight. The tire you got from Tire Rack had a date of 3-08-1, or did I read this wrong. March 8 ,2001. I think I would raise heck if that was true. I went to the garage and looked at the ones I used last summer. I found lots of numbers, one could be was 091001, which I guess could be intrepreted as Sept 10, 2001, but another was 03409, which would mean it hasn't been made yet, and won't be for five more years. (Now that's a fresh tire)

Seriously, are you sure what you read is the mfg date? Let us know, I sure don't want to buy old tires.

To read the 4 digit code, the first two digits designate the week of manufacture and the last two designate the year.

Yes, 3801 is the 38th week of 2001...hence my question on what others have. Tire Rack has told me before they can't choose tires to ship based on the age code, so before I squawk about the tire age, it would be good to know if others have gotten newer rubber and what warehouse they came from. I didn't mention before the tire size is 255x17.

Here are the dates for the tires I have purchased since Nov/03:

235/40ZR18 direct from Michelin Motorsports: 3003
295/30ZR18 direct from Michelin Motorsports: 3502
295/30ZR18 from Tire Rack: 3502

I've taken tire Durometer readings, they have all been identical.

My 255 x 17's both say 2201 as the last 4 after the DOT (HK4x2201). My 205's are also 2201. As I mentioned, mine were shipped from Nevada.

TOMW

Thanks, I think I finally got the code. Mine were 0901, which I guess means the ninth week of 2001. Seeing as how we got them in August of 2003, they were more than 2 years old. But, it seems as most people are in the same boat. (A slow boat from France.) They worked great, and wore better than any thing I have ever used. I wonder if other tires from other mfgs are as old. The only thing that bothers me is that if I call Tire Rack, and say my tires have set for a year or so, they try to talk me into buying new tires, which could actually could be older.

Thanks all that responded, this has been a real eye opener.
