Default Best place to buy brake pads?

I'm just wondering if anyone has a favorite vendor for buying track pads. I'm considering Hawk Blues, Performance Friction PF9?, and of course Pagid's...

I'm really interested in finding the best price, so if you have any recommendations, I'm all ears.

Thanks in advance!

I have had good dealings with BSR Products (www.bsrproducts.com), Carbotech and Cobalt Friction. I have gotten PFC pads from each of them and both the C guys have their own pads (www.carbotecheng.com and www.cobaltfriction.com) and Hawk pads.

Thumbs up

I got the PFC 90 compound for my 993 a while back. This is a car that now has 80K miles and has been thru 4 sets of front rotors (this is the 5th). This PFC 90 seems to be the best track compound I've ever gotten - better than Cool Carbons and Pagid Yellows (both of which chewed up rotors). Good braking and doesn't boil fluid as readily as others, apparently.

Give www.ogracing.com a visit.

For Hawks and Pagids (I think), Paul Weston can't be beat as far as product knowledge.

I've queried about a dozen places to buy PF-97s (which I use), and in my size (944TS) OG Racing has the best prices. Apparently they bought a huge amount in certain sizes (mostly P-specific) and can sell them lower than some other distributors' cost from PF. Unfortunately you can't get pricing through their website, but give them a call for comparison.

No financial interest in either company, blah, blah, blah...

I haven't found prices on Hawk pads better than those from Vertex.

I LOVE CARBOTECH!! The 1108 compound.

...ask me WHY - while you're A**-ending me prior to turn 1 at the end of any straight.

Okay, so I have BIG Reds too...but didn't want to admit I needed that "crutch".

Give Larry or Matt a call...not affiliated whatsoever, but I have had a few beers with them.

Yeah, we ran the XP1108 compound for a while as well. Its a fantastic compound but we had some backing plate issues at the time (its been corrected since). I ran the XP1109 compound on the 944S last year and feel it will be the pad I will run on that car from now on. I think you may want to try that out as I recall it being designed for heavier cars.

Going way back, I think Larry mentioned that he modeled the pad characteristics on the PFC-01 (which from everyone I talk with is a phenomenal pad). The XPs should be a far cry cheaper and since they are ceramic, they don't hurt wheels and paint like other pads can from dusting.

<-- also not affiliated - I think all three; BSR, Carbotech, Cobalt are very good to work with thus I suggested all three.

Fellas,
I just got off the phone with Carbotech...

They are suggesting the XP 1109's, although they said that the 1108's would work too.

At $125/axle, they're completely affordable... at least compared to the Pagids.

It think that I'll give them a try, in hopes that I don't run into the back of Jeff.

Thanks to everyone (once again) for their valuable input.

Anybody ever buy PFC 97's for 993/S4 brakes? PFC said that was the only compound they had to fit the caliper. I upgraded (?) my brakes on my 930 and bought pads from BSR at $275. Twice as much as my PFC 93 pads for the stock calipers. Better be twice as good!

I did see where Paragon had Pagid Orange for about $200 I think it was plus a free can of ATE brake fluid. Might try those next time.

Rocket, I have never run a PFC97 but have been running PFC93s for a while now. I love these but have been warned many times the 97s are not a step up. IIRC, its what some of the NASCAR/Busch guys run on the rear of the car. Again, no personal experience with them but have not heard a lot of guys (930/911 guys) that like them like the 93s. I would give those XPs a try, I am almost positive they have the Big Red/Big Black fitments (isn't the latter the S4 caliper?) as I checked for someone else back in August/September.
