Smile Road Atlanta I-class Rivalry

With 2 weeks until the Atlanta club race at Road Atlanta, there are rumblings about which of the 2 local hot shoes are likely to take the checker in “I” class this year, provided that an unknown doesn’t show up and teach everyone a lesson.

The two in question are Jon Grand who’s handle on Rennlist is “cheater” and Kerry Singley, “IPC”, both running 944’s.
.
To sweeten the pot they run out of rival shops here in Atlanta, Jon out of Rylands Specialized Import and Kerry out of his own International Performance Center.

To set the stage, both of these guys turn mid 1:47’s which is screamin fast in an I car at R.A. Kerry has 5+ years of experience and Jon barely 2.

Although I run out of IPC, both are friends of mine and since Jon is defending champ, I felt it was my duty to let him know that I was quite confident that Kerry was going to royally kick his a$$ this year. Jon made his feelings clear by asking me which is going to look better on the back of his car?

“Kerry... How do you like me now”? or “How do you like me now... Kerry”?
while offering to pay for the backward written graphics that read: “Hi Jon” or more accurately (noJ iH) which he would like mounted on the front of Kerry’s car so he can read it through his rear view mirror.

Just thought I’d stir the pot a little, stay tuned, it’s going to be a fantastic race in I class!

Totally of topic but when are you guys going to run an enduro at this event? You would get many more of folks if it was a bigger( track time) event.

Cheers, James

I know, I just feel like sprint races are too short. It's like getting invited out on a date by Cindy Crawford and then saying to her at the end of the evening " I have a headache"......

First I learn I could be passed by two I cars, then I learn the weekend will be like passing on Cindy Crawford.

And I just send my $365 in.

84-944, any idea what kinds of times these guys (I Stock) turn at VIR, Kershaw or Roebling Road? And if you know, how do the I Stock times compare to the front-running guys in 944-Cup?

You folks have fun down/up there and be safe.

Not sure about times at the other tracks, I want to say1:24's at Roebling, if I'm wrong, one of them will correct me.

Back on track.............. as much as I would like to win this race, I know, with a little fancy math that my 49's are 2 seconds slower than the 47's these guys run.

The best chance for us 48 & 49 sec runners is for these two to start to duke it out from the beginning, a choice handful will be right there waiting for an opportunity to take advantage of.

I still think that Kerry's got Jon number this year, although they're may be a few who disagree.

84-944...I LOVE IT!

That is so funny.

I hope Jon and Kerry, and yourself, do well.

Just wait, patiently...in the gallows for one of them to messup (not saying that they will) and you're there!

Thanks Jeff, unfortunately for the rest of us, they are too smart to start fighting until towards the end of the race. Regardless, with 18 -20 I cars qualifying for this race the past two years, you don't have to be in the front to have your hands full.

I'd like to see the 944 Cup boys take a road trip to Road Atlanta. One of them showed up last year and made a very respectable finish....last.

Just kidding, got DQ's for being about 3 lbs under, finished 3rd in line, right in front of me.

I knew this would be a regional post when I started it and that most of the country wouldn't care, I must say though, that I'm surprised that no one local has chimed in to dispute my prediction.

I guess they agree.

Brian,

I thought Jon's decal on the back would be "How's the view now?"

Expecting anybody local to wade in and make any predictions about who will finish P1 and P2 is asking a lot.

However, who will finish P3 (now that Pete has sold his car)? This is the real question?

Tim,

It's all a crap shoot, a yellow with 4 or 5 laps to go and it's anybody's game. I'm glad you'll be there.

I was going to say something about 3rd or better and me in the same sentence but too many would take issue with that and the racing gods are listening.

I Stock pole at Kershaw last fall was 1:54.9

Let get ready to rumble! Going to the track this weekend to do a little R&D with the BMW club. New spring setup, not sure what's going to happen. The clock is ticking and time will tell. Hey Brian, while you're behind Jon, let me know what his car said. I will be waiting at the finish line. "stir, stir&stir"
