Early on as this was unfolding, I could see (hope) for a late season "Americas" leg, from Montreal down through to Brazil, but as time goes on, I just don't see it being cost justified. The logistics are daunting, and as you get later in the year, you're bumping up on cold weather up here, storms south, shorter daylight etc.

I fully expect them to fold on this leg, and that's OK with me. Would rather them salvage a shortened series, save the weaker teams etc. and come back in 2021.

Perhaps something has changed, but I just read a couple days ago that the UK was not bending on their 14 day quarantine on people incoming from other countries and the likelihood of Silverstone hosting 2, let alone 1 races was highly doubtful as all the team personnel would have to comply with the quarantine.

From an economic standpoint, it makes no sense for fly away races for both the organizers and hosts as the fees F1 charges are exorbitant and without fans, concessions, parking etc., there's not way it will pencil out.

From those in the know, how will not having an F1 race in Austin affect their financial situation and the ability to host in years ahead?

TBH, Austin and Travis county (where the Track is) has been very conservative with COVID and closings. Much more so than Texas in general. No judgement, just a fact.

So COTA restrictions would be fairly high I would presume.

Interesting... I am still going to hold out for the race in Austin until I see an official release. If they cancel I wonder how they think that will help them build the US fan base. BTW The Moto-GP event was to be 2 weeks after the F1 race in Austin.

I really, really hope that isn't case. I'm sure COTA is relying on F1 revenue to keep afloat.

Formula 1 announced the opening eight races of the 2020 calendar. They will be finalizing the details of the wider calendar and are looking to publish that in the coming weeks with an expectation of having a total of 15-18 races this year.
So there is still Hope for COTA this year.

I seriously doubt they'll spend the giant sums of cash to bring the circus across the pond just for COTA; Mexico, and Brazil...and no spectators

Re Canadian GP, the Canadian border is still closed to the US and may be for quite a while--I'm guessing it's also closed to other countries but I don't know that as fact.

From what I saw on the potential Americas leg of the schedule it had looked like Canada was off.

Can't see Canada happening at all. The current announced schedule runs to September, after that, our weather is (a) crap (shoot).

Plus, the appeal of the Montreal race really isn't the circuit - it's the time of year, great weather, the city alive and buzzing, the packed stands.

I am waiting for the cancellation notice, back in 2021!

Just as well. Things are a mess.

I am actually happier to watch racing from Mugello, Nurburgring, Portimao and Imola. Looking forward to racing at these new/seldom used venues in a big way.
