Default Tinted windows on a track car?

Anyone think of a reason NOT to tint the windows on a 50/50 street/track car? (I'm not planning to do any night enduros )

I've still got A/C in car (I use it during staging/cool-down sometimes), and I'm thinking of removing it; but damn, it can get freakin hot!
Tinting would probably help.

Any reason not to?

Raagi,

Do you plan on PCA club racing the car? If you do, Item 26 in the safety section says, "Tinting of windows is not encouraged and in no case may tinting be any darker than that supplied by the factory."

I don't think it's an issue for DE's.

Does that apply to side windows which should be lowered while on track anyway? I don't see any reason tinted windows that would be lowered could be a problem but I could be wrong

Mitch,

The rules don't elaborate beyond what I posted above, but your reasoning makes sense.

If you are going to run in a stock class and have not otherwise modified your car to bump you up a class, removing ac parts will bump you up. Keep that in mind too. My windows are tinted and I have not had any problems with the scruts.

My car's door glass (I can't remove it due to class regs) is tinted and has never caused a 2nd glance...as stated above, the windows must be rolled-down at all times on the track anyway!

The rear glass also had tint film from the PO but I yanked it off; rear visbility in the 914 is challenging enough without making it dark too. Now there is a nasty glue residue...gonna go to a Lexan window anyway.

Not necessarily true. A 911SC can have it's AC removed and still remain stock, as AC was optional in 78-79. It's one of those undocumented exceptions to the PCA 'if it's not stated don't do it' guideline - I have a note from Tom Charlesworth stating it's OK.
