Default AMB Transponder - subscription required?

Hello,
I just bought a race car that came with a hardwired transponder. I've created an account with mylaps and added the transponder number to my account and I can see the previous owners laps/results from some years ago, which is kinda cool. I am unclear if I need to do anything else to get it up and running... do I need a subscription? My searching uncovered that there are older units that function w/out a subscription and mine seems to match those, at least visually. Is there extra functionality w/a subscription?
Thanks,
Tom

That's an older unit that doesn't require a subscription. They're selling on the used market for $500 or so!

Thanks for the info. Sounds like good news! So do I just give the track front office or NASA/PCA my transponder number or fill in that blank during registration or is it all automatically linked together through mylaps & my account there? Sorry for the silly questions... long time DE'er but new to racing...

Thanks,
Tom

The new ones lower lap times as part of the subscription. You should sell me that one for $150.

You can contact Mylaps to have the transponder transferred to you. Didn't cost me anything to do. All you need to provide for any race registration is the transponder number. The racing organization matches it with your registration.

Tom,

What did you buy- are you going to make it out to a NASA event at UMC this year.

Hi Phil,
I bought a SPEC 911. If I was smart, which I am obviously not, I would've bought a SPEC Boxter. I went with my heart, not my head... but I'm SUPER excited and can't wait to drive the thing! I had fun in the Tatum SPEC Boxter last year, but missed my 911. It was originally a GT-classed car, but the previous owner had JWE convert it to SPEC 911. The big stuff is well done. I'm hoping to make a few dates at UMC this year - Not ready for this coming weekend, but looking to August, September & October... The car's been sitting for a number of years and all the safety stuff has expired, so I've been giving it a once over and throwing $$ and time at it to update everything and verify all the systems etc....

Hope to see you down there soon!
Tom
