Default 2019 F1 Chinese Grand Prix

Free practice starts tonight and after 2 races, things still aren't clear on who has the upperhand with Mercedes dominating in Australia and Ferrari's Leclerc walking away from everyone in Bahrain until his engine decided to give up some HP.

This race weekend will be interesting as all teams had an opportunity to test after the Bahrain GP and work out any bugs. Ferrari say they will use the same engine in LeClerc's car that let him down in the last race... interesting decision. After 2 races, Ferrari has asked Leclerc to hold station behind Vettel on both occasions with CL only obeying team orders once....

At the end of the day, Mercedes is still Mercedes and has finished 1-2 in both races with Bottas leading the WDC by a slim margin. McLaren punching above it's weight as is Alfa Romeo while HAAS and the factory Renault team have squandered great positions on track.

The Chinese GP will have one of the longest straights on the calendar as well as some tight 1st gear decreasing radius corners, we'll see who that favors.

@multi21 , seems like the recurring theme for 2019 so far is; Merc publicly announcing that Ferrari have more power, followed by Ham declaring something is wrong with his car, all while they have 10% power in the bag....

The last shootout formation lap was kinda shady.

Of course, me being a Vers fan....

Good analysis of Ferrari losing downforce but having great straight line speed.
Chandhok mentioned that Ferrari was 7km faster in the straight.
Also good analysis of Ver's anger with Vet

Love the Sky coverage, but really struggling with Karun Chandhok as an announcer.

His voice, accent, restless spastic body movement and insipid commentary are all killing me, but other than that, I guess he's OK?

Cheers

You mean over the whole field...?

2kph - https://i.redd.it/w0hbe28a80s21.jpg

I read somewhere that DRS wing open makes more of a difference on the Ferrari than the rest of the field but 2 kph...., negligible.

That said, RB are way down the lineup with Williams on trap speeds but Kvyat with Honda, right near the top.

When Chandhok was contrasting quickest lap by Bot vs Vet, he mentioned that Ferrari was 7km/h faster than Mercedes in speed trap.
The FIA speeds you attached, show Ferrari at the top by all metrics

LOL, I'm just about opposite, Chandhok and Brundle are the only two who know anything...., the rest, meh.

Up next Shaw LeClaire followed by Gasly in the Honder.

I just find it funny when Karun comments about somebody's driving. Like he knows how it's supposed to be done. Lol. Wasn't he always dead last in every race he ran?

Yep, by 5, 3, 1 and 1.5 kph (Bot/Vet)., no intermediate or speed trap has Ferrari + 7 kph.

Av is 2.6.

thanks, you can raise that with Chandhok

A top speed advantage is a top speed advantage

Your earlier comments alluded to Mercedes holding back and actually holding a top speed advantage

Still better than Buxton was. Karun may have been a bottom-feeder in the highest echelon of motorsports but at least he did drive, and still does. His speech inflections are a bit out there but I can live with that.
