Default First Timer DE in a 928

Hey Guys, got my first DE coming up this spring.

Here's the issue: I can't fit in the car with my helmet on!
I guess I saw this one coming, it's a sunroof model, with 8 way seats, so I can barely scratch my head without the helmet on, even with the seat as low as it can go,
With the helmet... it's just not happening.

I was going to look at racing seats next. It's either that or pull the headliner panel. Or both...
Is there a fairly universal fit racing seat that will drop in and lower me about two inches? Recardo?

Looking for some ideas or suggestions.
Many thanks.

One reasonable first step to consider would be checking to see if your OEM seat can be removed from the sliders and be directly floor mounted.
That will drop it a couple of inches.
If you check w OG Racing Mark may have a compatible floor mount for your car. BreyKrause makes some universal mounts.

While sub-optimal, have you tried reclining the seat a bit as well?

+1 on Mark over at OG Racing.

As you ive raced them (928s) for near 20 years now, and yes, it can be a tight fit. How tall are you ? I'm 6ft and I fit fine..... I fit a lot better when the race seat as was mentioned., replaced the stock seat. taking the headliner wont do much.... most of the fit will be in the seat.... one of the easiest ways to gain space is to recline the seat and move forward to the pedals....

In the Miata world many people perform a "foamectomy" to remove the foam from the seat bottom to gain extra head room with stock seats. I don't know if that's feasible but it might help if you don't have other options.

Did you remove foam or add foam?

I'm not sure if you're calling me short or fat.

I want to thank everyone for the good ideas.
Exactly what I needed.
I will start looking at these options.
I’m a gangly 6’4, so it’s a challenge. Further back would be good too.

I’ve got a extra set of OEM seats, it didn’t occur to me but maybe there is a way to delete all the power and lower it as well? Conversion to manual, manual seats were always lower somehow right?
I’d have no hardware to adjust it so it would have to be in a desired fixed position.
I know that’s rambling.

As an aside, I couldn’t believe how old my car is compared to the rest of the DE group!
I’m 50 percent of the transaxle P cars going.
Everything else on the roster is new

Depending on how much DE you plan, ideally you will need after-market seats that you can mount lower and further back. A steering wheel with extended hub or a deeper dish to get the wheel closer to you is also helpful.
Stiffer springs and sway bars, limited slip, rising rate fuel regulator, wider wheels and tires, it is a slippery slope

I DE'd for years in my 928 at 6'1" it's not easy. But lean back and move it forward to reach the pedals. There are two sets of holes in the floor so you should be able to start at the furthest back setting.

Our club NRPCA is very strict for seat changes. Make sure you check with the group your running with and if you plan to continue with this car. You can't run race seats without harnesses as the three point harness is not designed for the race seat positions.

Some clubs don't allow harness bars only half cages (bolt in but might have to be weld in)

PCA is mandating Head and Neck restraints when using harnesses. You also need to have equal on both sides of the vehicle.

This is where people begin to look at integrity of the street car (cost if upgrades required) and costs of a race car...

I'm a bit surprised that the answer is basically to have a sub optimal driving position (reclining the seat)...
It doesn't seem to me that it would be the safest nor the most comfortable solution.

I'd look at race seats and/or mount the seat on the floor.
On most race seats cushions can be removed as well.
