Post Racing Rain Tire

Does anyone have a recommendation for good racing rain tire?

I am currently running Pirelli slicks (245x645/18) and (305x660/18) on a PCA GT2R car. Obviously, its not running in stock class so I don't have the D.O.T. requirements that those classes do.

Thanks in advance!

Dunlop GT Rain Slick. Same tire that many of the ALMS teams run. Best rain tire I've ever run on a sedan.

Not many guys run Dunlops in ALMS.... They have to in Grand-Am.

Look at the customer version of the Michelin slick, available directly from Michelin. Pirelli makes a rain tire and should be available from Bob Woodman tires.

Hoosier Dirt Stockers do very well in the wet, and work for guys that can't run 17" or larger wheels... They melt once it dries out though!

Michelin makes proper sized rains for Porsche in 24/64-18 front and 27/68-18 rears as used in ALMS - not the spec series of Grand-Am, with an optional 27/65-18 (for the short rear - not recommended for slicks on the rear as the load requirement for the late model CUP cars has serious issues with the 650mm rear) and available from Michelin at 1-800-722-3234.

Glenn, you' re welcome to those Yokohama racing rain tires I have. The tires are A-006Bs, not DOT, with 270/650R18 fronts and 290/680R18 rears. I don't understand those wacky sizes, but your car runs them and you can probably make sense of the numbers. They were still in plastic when I got the car, have never been mounted, and are "like new".

Pick them up and buy me a beer sometime and we'll call it even. At the very least you should see if they'll work for you. I certainly can't run them in GT-2S.

Cheers,

Skip

I didn't realize they weren't DOT tires when you offered them to me before. I just assumed you were going to use them over the long haul. I'll take them!

Are you going to the tech session on Saturday? I can pick them up from you then or sometime before the TWS race.

Hi Glenn,

I didn't know they weren't DOT either, so I guess it's a good thing that I didn't try to use them.

I wasn't planning on going to the tech session, but I'm in Boulder most days and in the area if you want to meet down that way at some point.
