I need the unemotional logic of RLers. ZR1 or R?

All you 911 snobs
Not me! I also have a Cayman R track car. One positive for the R is it's fairly easy to set up with roll bar, sport bucket seats, Schroth GT3 harness and retain the 3 pt belt and airbags for the street if you haven't already done that.

Race Car
I've never really got the whole " I don't want to drive it because it's becoming a collectible" thing. I don't buy cars to be an investment. I buy them to drive them and enjoy them and EXPECT them to depreciate to nothing as they age. If at the end of it's time with me it's actually worth something then that's a benefit that I didn't see coming and one I'll take it in stride. Insure it for what it's worth and enjoy it. I bought my GT3 at the bottom of their market and it's worth considerably more now but it doesn't stop me from using it how I intended to use it when I bought it. I figured it would be worth 25-30k at it's current point in life.
That said, if the ZR-1 is the twinkle of your eye and within your means there's no harm in wanting something newer and faster. Go for it and report back on that bad boy when you get it!

Three Wheelin'
one potential problem with the ZR-1 might be traffic on a DE day..... you will be way faster than 99% of others so you will basically drive from obstacle to obstacle on most days

Especially at Limerock.
What i imagine a lap in a ZR1 would be like. Blip throttle, brake, think about the throttle, brake, contemplate the throttle, brake, touch throttle with pinky toe, hang on for dear life, blip throttle. Repeat.

get more experience in the R and get the ZR1 later. btw, the vet is more "mid engine" than you think.. the front of the engine is behind the front axle, like the aston martin vantage. they call it a front -mid engine.
the main difference here is ..................everything.. Go fast in the R before you try and go fast in a 700+ hp monster.

At tracks like the Glen and Mosport the ZR1 would blow your mind. Personally, to paraphrase Stephen Stills at Woodstock, I'd be scared s#!tless to drive one

That's a problem that we'd all like to have!

Mid-engined Corvette comes out in 2020...according to C&D the staring price is $75K. Just sayin....Cayman/Corvette best of both worlds?
Although that's a base model likely and getting your hands on one may involve a markup when the time comes. And you'd be in uncharted territory as far as the car goes.

Your F Class Boxster is the safest and most efficient way for your to become a better driver on the track. I’m surprised you’re driving anything else on the track at this point. With respect to the ZR1, how could that be fun at Lime Rock? Remember, Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely

Buy a used one. You're going to lose two cayman's in the first year. One car and one fist of dollars.

It's truly shocking how easy it is to get to 160 on a road course in those things (ZR1s)...
