But for green students especially, going for a ride to see the line, and feel how hard you can push. A ride with thier instructor is invaluable. IMHO.... So now we are going to overload the few instructors with street cars giving rides?
I'm a newbie at this, but why not take them out in "their" car?

Good job PCA for making the change and getting the word out early.

I assume this pertains to “Time Trials” also?

No problem with the rule, but it will limit the number of instructors who can instruct in a car with harnesses. Not all of us have HNR.

If you're an instructor and have a car with harnesses, you need to have a HANS. As others have noted already in this thread, its one of the cheapest parts you'll buy for this hobby. It also has the added benefit of possibly saving your life.

MSF has complementary rentals for HANS and other SFI 38.1 head and neck restraints.

Does this mean that other HNR besides HANS that are rule compliant will be accepted?

Not an exception if written in. Just like no passing in corners unless it's an instructor run session.

I quite agree with this for drivers... Anyone running with a 5/6 point harness without some kind of HANS is a little crazy. That said, we've all had that difficult student that no matter what you said and how many times you try to TELL THEM what to do don't get it at all until you show them. Too bad this rule doesn't address this situation and offer any solution. Choosing to instruct is difficult enough, taking this tool out of our bag just makes it harder and in some cases, impossible. (And no, driving the student's car is no solution--nor is installing 3-point belts in a race car a reasonable option.)

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely want to see drivers with proper protection. Just wish the student demo ride issue was addressed...

I quit giving thrill rides to anyone without a Hans. I have 6 point and no option for 3 point. Amazing how quickly they figured out how to be sitting and waiting with a Hans.

Not an issue for me with anyone who wants a ride at speed to have them in proper protection... I just want to be able to take a Green student out in the Blue group and show them the line at something a notch above parade laps.

Schroth has good pricing on their HANS units out of the UK.
