Hey Alex,
Very cool. I have seen this pic before but did not realize it was from the Porsche Museum. Tom called me yesterday and we talked for about 45 mins. He had so many of these watercooled cars that he has lost count.
Plus he had a 911 that he raced. He was telling me about a mechanic he had that had worked for Patton in WW2. He said Porsche couldn't keep up with what he was doing to the cars to get more speed. He said Porsche wanted to take this one car back to Germany to copy some of his suspension stuff. He said the mechanic who worked for Patton said absolutely no. He did not trust the Germans. Think Tom said the mechanic told him if the car went to Germany it would never come back the same. (The car did not go).

That's wild. I will see if my dad knew that mechanic.

Fantastic stuff, Clark. How about an update on my old DP that you bought? Sure was a fun car to drive!

FRank turns out that car was not an original DP. It was a street 924 with what was a GT3 motor and of course it was completley tube frame. The first time I saw that car was at Summit POint in 1995 and the kid that owned it claimed it had started life off as a DP. THe original log book has a street VIN number in it, I still have the car. THey made 16 DPs Vin #s are 92A0490001-16.

That actually doesn't surprise me as you are correct; mine was a full tube frame GT car. Quite radical. Was my VIN not one of the 1-16's?
Sure wish that car would run again in any case, I'll even offer to drive it!

The car still looks exactly the same. After Rennsport Reunion I need to thin our my car "collection" and this will be the first to go. Andrew Eagan from Bob Woodman is interested in it and the kid is a good mechanic so I am sure it will see the track again.

Wouldn't that be great? And I'll bet that this car is faster than any of the "correct" DP's, certainly lighter.
From what I remember, the motor runs and it should be an easy fix, the issue was the Torque Tube splines into the clutch plate.
In any case, congrat's on your restoration and on the feature I read in Club Racing News!
Was the first thing I read!

Almost there motor in and most signage is done. Correct BBS wheels were taken of during before going to the paint shop. The stripes are painted on.WE could find a vinyl guy that could do the stripes.
