Default 18” whl options and weights

Im looking at getting some 18s for track use, so Im concerned about strength and weight.

The RH 3.6 Turbo Speedline replicas and Kinesis 993 Supercup/RS replicas, how do they compare to say BBS or HRE whls in weight, strength and cost?

Thanks.

Not sure of other wheels, but (4) Jongbloed 18's are 25 lbs lighter than the Speedline 3 -piece wheels. As far as holding up, (IF) you stay on the track, they work well. They reccomend to have tested 1 a year. Cost was around mid 3K.

Im assuming 25 lbs lighter for a set of 4 (about 6 lbs less each). Which means they probably weigh around 15-18 lbs per whl. That is light.

The real Speedlines on your cup car are a magnesium center, correct? Forged?

The aftermarket copies are cast aluminum, so I would expect them to weigh a few lbs more than the originals. I was just quoted 21.5 to 23 lbs each for the Kinesis Super Cup replicas, with the full race BBS being closer to 18-19 lbs each. These numbers are for 8.5 and 9.5 by 18.

The big (IF)...

yep, they ( speedline) are magnesium center's I would have to belive are forged.. THey are a great work horse of a wheel, however I have had these wheels start to crack, I think I am down to 5 or 6 out of 8 wheels now. Just a fact of life I guess.

That being said, I went with Yoengbloed wheels as they have been around a long time and you can actually talk to the owner who assembles the wheels. I got tired of dealing with the "system" trying to get the speedlines fixed.

Good luck!

I just weighed my new Fikses: 225/18 Sport Cup on 18x8=38Lbs.
285/18 Sport Cup on 18x10=43 Lbs.

Don't know if that helps you or not

I have had 2 sets of Fikse's and one set BBS. The Fikse's have had leaking problems and the BBS have had no issues. Weight is about the same.

JW those weights must be with the Michelin PSC tires? Very heavy tire. Hoosiers are much lighter.

Bill, where did your Fikse leak? Mine leaked at the valvestem. PITA since you can only use Fikse valvestems. Can't find those in any tire shop. Apparently made in Germany someplace.....

I have 2 sets of Forge Line 3 pc wheels with zero problems. Not sure of the weight.

Greg F. had a BBS mag center crack on him. It looked ugly!

This past Fall dave was looking into a few weight savings options which include Ti bolts and a new center which was lighter.

How are the OEM 1 pc 18 whls suited to track use? Like the 993 Turbo Twist whls?

Im assuming they are pressure cast, and even the hollow spoke will be significantly heavier than the better 3pc whls, but thats just a guess.

If they bend, obviously you have to toss the whole whl instead of a rim half. Any other concerns in comparison to the above mentioned 3pc whls?

The application is for a PCA stock class car, not a GT. So the car is heavy relative to bhp and Im not running slicks.

Thanks for the input.
