Default Fangio said it best...

"Driving fast on the track doesn't scare me. What scares me is when I drive on the highway and I get passed by some idiot who thinks he is Fangio"

Ain't that the truth. The civilians around here scare me more than anybody on the track - and don't even get me started on the bloody cell phones.

Well, it took over 1/2 a century for it to happen, but you know those times you actually wished a cop was around...

Going to TWS last Tuesday on HWY 6 I'm cruising along towing with the cruise set at 80 about 8 miles south of TWS. Up ahead is a slower semi and two cars pass me in the left lane. The slower semi moves over and there is another one in front of him. I move over in the left lane and join the conga line. The semi is passing the other semi with about a 1 MPH speed differential and the conga line is down to 70.

Out of nowhere comes a newer Camaro who runs right up on my trailer and then proceeds to rush up the right lane behind the semi being passed. So I close ranks - what is it with people who can't wait their turn ?

In an instant the Camaro hammers the throttle and shoots up an exit onto the service drive and disappears. About two minutes later I finally get around the trucks and there is Mr. Camaro with a Texas DPS trooper on his *** with his Christmas lights on. Would have loved to hear that conversation* .

-Mike

*For those that don't know, Texas DPS troopers have a reputation that their sense of humor has been surgically removed.

Good one. I always tell my friends, "the most dangerous part of track weekend is getting to and from the track."

p.s. Are you coming to NNJR event this year at the Glen? Enjoyed the virtual track walk last year.

So true and driving with a trailer is like having a magnet to attract every a$$hat driver around.

Yep, was it you who said driving with a trailer is like having a magnifying glass to see all the idiots on road?

I swear coming home last night with the trailer I was displaying a "Kick Me" sign. Some Darwin Award Applicant pulled out in front my my 10,000 lb rig going 70 MPH in a Geo Metro.

Can you imagine the idiocy an 18 wheeler brings out in people?

When I was working for the power company, a half lifetime ago, I was driving a fully loaded semi when an older woman in a big *** Buick who was sitting stopped at a stop sign looked right at me coming down the highway at 60 mph and pulls out at about 25 mph. The biggest code brown moment ever for me. I pulled the front brake lock and started rowing gears. We were less than 6" apart when our speeds were finally matched.

I have first hand experience of the idiocy you referred to. She was just fortunate that it was a straight stretch of dry road and I wasn't staring off into space.... It cannot count the number of times someone pulled out so they didn't have to follow the big rig.

In some ways I can appreciate that thought process, but said moron above then was only able to wind up their little POS to about 60. Honest to God, if you are going to do it, use better judgement and get your *** going.

Passing people with the trailer is a bitch on a busy two lane - again I sympathize with the truckers just for momentum's sake.
