Is the Major service a milage based or time based one? I know item such as clutch wear depend highly on the driver but I'm talking more overall. Great work btw, glad you're giving the community a sneak peak into the world of CGT care.

No update but some cars do need new camshafts due to pitting. It was more common in the early cars but there isn't any rhyme or reason to it.

Interesting...apart from doing a major service and opening up the engine are there any other telltale signs of pitting happening...eg can you see some metal shavings in the oil filter or collect small pieces of metal with a magnet during oil change? In the airplane world you can have a sample of your old oil collected and send for oil analysis...can we do the same with our CGT's oil at time of an oil change? Also, what is the cost for new camshafts? I would assume you would be better of doing a major service if you are going through all the trouble of opening an engine.

Conversations with the PCNA Atlanta tech center revolved around switching to a higher zinc content motor oil, rather than Mobil1, as a preventative.
Any more recent info on oils?

I wonder if the pitting is caused by electrolysis. 2 different metals and such. In boats that are kept in the water, battery chargers cause all kinds of problems with electrolysis. They have special chargers and it is still a problem.
