This is going to set off a firestorm...but there is a known "fake/replica" 959 that resides in Aspen. Here's a couple threads from the internet mentioning it. Could this be the one you saw?
Amazing how small this world is at times - it had an off beat sound and looked like it had seen some rough weather conditions - assumed it needed some TLC.

I don't really have issues with someone putting a body kit on their car...I do take issue with someone trying to pass it off as the real thing, which he apparently did with you. He does seem to drive it year round based on the different pics around.
Gooding just sold a Sport for $1,705,000 at their Scottsdale auction (I assume there was a Buyer's Premium on top of this price). Four owners, 18,000 km. They sold a Comfort version for $1,485,000 at Pebble. Again, plus Buyer Premium. Three owners, 8,000 km. Canepa still has two for sale and I'm guessing the price just went up.

Secret collector: good to know the premium was included, and, I believe the one Canepa has with 300 miles does start with a 2; don't know about the Pearl White one.
