Sorry I have not seen this color. It is very white, no other colors but for the metallic, and a bargain at a mear $20,000. A whole lotta savings off liquid metal silver. That was another observation I made at the factory they had a couple of liquid metal silver cars and a GT Silver, it was really hard for me to see any significant difference. Yes there was a difference but I spent a lot of time going back and forth and it just did not do it for me, and then I went White anyway

Haha you are like me at first, can't tell the difference between GT Silver and the liquid metal, especially indoors.

That white I am talking about is the white mostly on A8/S8, bright white, with a hint of blue almost. It is so white it made any other white cars looks yellowish/cream colour.

So I decided on onyx white. I also selected the Weissach package. I'm still up in the air on whether to go with black or silver wheels. Part of the decision will be based on what color of wheels any other onyx white 918s are getting.

On a related note, I was surprised to see some of the "paint to sample" colors that have been approved. The two most surprising were "Viper Green" and "Lambo Orange". I like green and orange... but why not Porsche Green or Porsche Orange (like on either a late 60s - early 70s 911 or on a 997 GT3RS)? Just wondering out loud.

So, just in case I don't get the VIN number I requested, anyone have any cool ideas for Porsche relevant numbers that could serve as the VIN? Ones that come to mind are:

356, 550, 901, 904, 906, 908, 911 (taken), 912, 914, 917, 918 (taken).

Anything else you guys can think of with Porsche ties that's not a model number? Could be something else perhaps? Like displacement, number of cylinders, etc.

That's the color I ordered "Onyx white" I could not remember:bang head:

Anyway I'm not suggesting you go with my theme but this is the finish I ordered on the Weissach wheels.

356 and 917 are taken I tried those. In fact of the long list I provided every one was gone but for 887. I wish you better luck!

Actually I think all the numbers mentioned are taken. Pretty much all the Porsche historical numbers are gone.

356 was my first choice, tried to get it last year in May. Nothing to do with Porsche but it was a historic number for my family. Ended up with my wife's birthday as car number as I thought that would ease the shock of her knowing what I just bought. It worked. She keep telling her friends how much I loved her and that I picked her birthday for car number.

@swb3, that finish is the platinum satin. I have ordered that on my car too on the Weissach magnesium wheels. And Onyx white is really close to Audi's Mineral White. Like Real close.

Oh here is a pic of the Weissach wheel in platinum satin

Thank you for the picture that is the first I've seen it on the car and I still like it!

'Viper Green' or 'vipergrün' is one of the most historic Porsche colors around! It was a special order color in 1972 and a standard color in 1973. It has nothing to do with the 'Dodge Viper'..if that is what you thought! 'RS Green' is a relative new 'made-up' color introduced for the MY2007 gt3 RS. Other than that, it has little historical significance with Porsche! By the way, both greens are currently on the approved PTS list! 'Viper Green' is color code 225, which is the same number as the color had in 1972/1973 for the long hood 911's. You can't get more 'historic' than that at Porsche! And 'RS Green' is now simply called 'Green', although its color code 2D8 is the same as the one used for 'RS Green' in the 2008/2009 era. So it's the same color!

But in any case, let me explain how PTS works at Porsche. It is based on customer wishes...it's not driven by Porsche color designers or the whims of 'Porsche Exclusive' staff. If you want your Porsche in 'Lambo Orange' (which might be called 'Aranacio Borealis'*) you request it and put up your $5500. If the color is approved, they'll built it for you! Customer's actual requests - that is how every single PTS color gets on that list, whether is 'available', 'not available', 'feasibility check started' or 'feasibility check needed'. The process is pretty democratic and fair, if you ask me.

Excellent news you are going 'Weissach'. Good luck with your order.

The only Porsche I know that was done in this color is a 2005 Carrera GT. I don't see that color presently listed in the Porsche PTS list as of 1/23/2014, so it does not appear to have been requested for a 991, 981 or Panamera yet. And I don't know what colors have been approved just for the 918 since they are not on the regular models list. Does anybody has that information on 918 specific PTS?

What color did you go with on the wheels?

Is yours going to be a weissach edition too?

Now that's interesting. I asked my dealer today if the mag wheels could be painted a darker shade of silver/gray. My rep said no. But from your photo it sure looks like the shade I was looking for. Did you order your wheels in this shade?

Beautiful colors, both of them. When the next RS comes out it will be difficult to choose between them.

Yes. It is a $5800 option. But it isn't in the regular 918 ordering guide the dealer uses. It is a CXX option. You might need to go through Germany to customize it that way if your dealer can't find a way to order it. Or go through PCNA's 918 Specialists first.

There are a few customizing options that's not on the ordering guide. But can be added on by the 918 Specialists or the 918 Concierge in Stuttgart.

Example:

-Adding back the gas struts to the front hood on a Weissach car (instead of the carbon rod)

-Selecting the anti-glare matte carbon finish on the dash while keeping the accent stripe, normally the stripe will be gone and that piece will be all black

-Adding back door handles, door pockets to the Weissach car's doors.

-Custom finish on wheels, be it platinum satin or black or whatever.

Let me know if your dealer is unable or unwilling to help, I will send you contacts to the 918 Specialists and 918 Concierge. You just need to find out your commission number and quote that and they will be able to locate your car in the system.

I have to say this buying experience so far compared to McLaren MSO and Ferrari has been quite interesting. Porsche at the dealer level seems a bit ill equipped to handle the type of customer who ponies up for these cars. As we see above: not every dealer has the answers or knowledge to handle the special requests that these cars bring out. It seems prudent that after the 200k dp is made at the dealer, a buyer should be handed off immediately to a 918 specialist that can answer all the crazy stuff we come up with. Whoopsy's post scares me a bit as none of the stuff he wrote was mentioned to me!
