Pretty terrible blow from a marketing perspective for clients if you ask me.

We just got the call... My guess is not enough interest in the eastern part of the US. Very Sad. Certainly not how P has done things in the past.. End of thread???

PS: Only cause this has been a topic of such debate, recently discussed, and used as a reason to put down the Porsche 918 by some here (and not cause I really care):

Dated September 9th, 2nd paragraph.
Autocar reports, Porsche said
“We have taken deposits for more than two-thirds of the planned production volume,” officials revealed to Autocar. “Interest is increasing by the day.”
So there you have it. Porsche says "we're ahead of schedule", so received deposits on two thirds of the 918's already (that would be 600 or so units). And before some Smart Alec says "yeah but those aren't sales". Well, that would be the case for any customer Hybrid Hyper car at the moment, until they got to actually drive a finished model, and sign off on it.

Autoweek reports the same (must have been from a press kit/statement at Frankfurt):

Porsche claims orders for its new performance flagship are already ahead of expectations, saying the company has accepted deposits for more than two-thirds of the planned volume.

We'll see if others continue to report this, Porsche continues to say the same?

Yup! It already has. 6:57

Three drivers (W. Röhrl, M. Lieb, T. Kluck ) attempted, and they all were under the holy grail 7 Min mark last week Weds. Lieb had the best time of 6:57. .

Now you won't hear McLaren (and many 918 haters) report anything about their times until, unless they can get theirs under 7 min (if that's even possible). But I'm sure they'll try, want to

Apparently, the 6:48 time that was bandied about, was on non-road tires. And the 918 that set the record of 6:57 with it's road legal Michelin's didn't have active aero (or so it appears to me), so it's time could be possibly improved a bit. We'll see?

Congrats Porsche and future 918 owners (Porsche says they have deposits on 600 now, and it's picking up. And this was even before the Ring Time announcement).

I haven't read all the posts in this insane thread (seems like a given on 991 GT3 forum). But I did find this:

What was that again about how the 918 was a too-heavy pig and would get smoked by the Macca?

The P1 produces 903bhp and 664lb-ft and weighs ~1490kg.

The LaFerrari produces 950bhp and 715lb-ft and weighs ~1345kg.

The claimed 'ring time for the 918 is 7:14. The claimed time for the P1 is sub-7. The rumoured time for the P1 is 6:33 though.

I expect the P1 and LaFerrari to both go well under 7 mins, which would make the difference between those cars and the 918 about the difference between a GT3 and a boxster.

The 918 is, by any reasonable assessment, a monstrous pig and it should be criticized in the harshest possible terms so that Porsche does not so utterly fail its enthusiasts like this in the future.
