I think the 960 is supposed to have that job; maybe it will get the 4.6L V8 too. The 918 was conceived as a test bed for future/different technologies a la the 959. Re-read Stout's post earlier in this thread and watch the video again. Pete and Leno get it.....

The novelty of the electrical gizmos is fun for now but what about later on? Betamax?

and if i didnt know any better, Jay Leno is taking a liking to Porsche...
He has favored Porsche for many years. The car he has a problem with is Ferrari.

The 918 is a window to what future Porsche's will be. Let's hope Porsche supports it more so than the CGT.

Weird that an engineer would get the weight conversion wrong. It's not like it's a fact that can't be checked. Almost as though he never thinks in pounds. Either that or a major brain fart.....

wasnt the Hubble Telescope fiasco a result of a metric conversion issue?

If you look closely at the video, you can hear Leno murmuring "glad I have my CGT w/ a proper stick."

NASA screwed up some mission where a craft hit some object's surface because one engineer converted units using yards instead of meters.

As we all know a meter is about 3.28 feet.

A more common error is talking in Imperial vs Metric Tons, or Tonnes.

Isn't the MP4/458 fighter already confirmed to be on the way? Doesn't seem like ditching the electric drive tech would save 600lbs though. It has a tiny battery, only something like 6KWh. Motors and high voltage hardware weigh a lot but not that much.

I don't think so. The mirror was ground to the wrong shape because of a cluster frak that had to do with the correcting instruments that were used to test it. One of them was improperly assembled. Tacit-Conundrum's reference to the yards/meters conversion and a planetary mission lander sounds familiar.....
