At Monterey it was Passenger only on Friday.

The only Civilian to have driven the car in the entire world as of this last Pebble Beach has been Jay Leno.

I didn't have the time to wait because it was so busy at the Zentrum around 2:30pm Friday! Next year I will just take the entire week off.

Ain't it nice to just be able to ring or send an email and "get invited"? Though I admit I rarely take advantage.

I wonder if you wait another 6 months, and then go offer Porsche $5-600k for a 918 and promise to keep it quiet... My guess is they would start offering tacit discounts in order to be able to say that the whole production was sold.

I agree with previous poster, it's just not an attractive car, and at least for me, a Carrera gt is still much more desirable. In fact, if I had $400k to spend on a car I would buy a Carrera gt over anything else available. Few purer modern cars out there... 918 really doesn't inspire any emotion or lust in me.

FWIW, in Europe one person was allowed to drive the car on the track. I suspect other invitees will be allowed to do so as well. However, the car was detuned to 720hp. He had nothing but good things to say about the car. Nevertheless, he remains uncertain he will buy one.

At the Porsche Zentrum in Carmel last week the 918 pulled into the lot after a test drive. The V8 exhaust growl was lovely (much nicer in person). Then the driver shut down the engine and backed into the stall under electric power. It was fascinating and disturbing at the same time. Watch:

And Mike, I can't imagine any real driving enthusiasts, would pick the ability to park his car silently, over losing over 1000 pounds of weight in his sports car. Would you?

Not really, which is why I said I found watching it both fascinating and disturbing....
