Find a clip of a Carrera GT doing the same thing, and then tell me if you would spend over three times as much for the 918.
And Mike, I can't imagine any real driving enthusiasts, would pick the ability to park his car silently, over losing over 1000 pounds of weight in his sports car. Would you?

Can't afford either but would love a go at the GT

I liked the looks of the 918. Think it will stand the test of time just as the CGT has vs the Enzo. Think the Enzo now looks dated whereas the CGT still looks great.

I don't think the enzo is dated. Have you ever heard one? A nice one is 1.6 mill plus. A whole different ball game. I think the market has spoken on the 918. There is a never ending list of people who can put 850 in a car if they want to. It just doesn't have the appeal. IMHO
The CGT is a neat car. If I wanted an exotic Porsche I would buy that instead of the 918.

for mike.
thanks for the video.
so, maybe the electrics can be used by sneaky teenage children to take their dad's 918 out for a cruise without him being aware??? (and bring it back (in one piece) as well)?

I wonder if you wait another 6 months, and then go offer Porsche $5-600k for a 918 and promise to keep it quiet... My guess is they would start offering tacit discounts in order to be able to say that the whole production was sold.
I agree with previous poster, it's just not an attractive car, and at least for me, a Carrera gt is still much more desirable. In fact, if I had $400k to spend on a car I would buy a Carrera gt over anything else available. Few purer modern cars out there... 918 really doesn't inspire any emotion or lust in me.

Sadly I doubt Porsche will allow bidding.

The 918 is a disaster before it has even got out of the gate and that's down to a misguided concept.

It's funny...I'm still harping about no choice of manual in the 991 GT3, but my first drive in a 918 had me rethinking my take on the car—which mirrored many of the skeptics here. Heavy hybrid...hoo cares?
Then I drove a 918 proto.
Let's see...900 hp that's more usable than the 600 in a Carrera GT with far, far better-resolved handling, genius AWD that's far more responsive as a result of the electric motors, and plain stunning overall ability. Beautifully turned out, too. And you can drive it to work like a Tesla? Hmm.
I've got 1,200 miles in Carrera GTs, but I had no doubt I would have slid a C-GT into an armco trying to keep up with myself in a 918 after just two rainy laps on an unfamiliar race track. I also get PDK in the 918, both because it fits with and is required by the car's high-tech nature and because it appears that 900 hp may be more than enough to make street driving as concentration-oriented as track driving in 300-500-hp cars. Debate the merits and demerits of that new world if you will, but I think it will be a shame if they don't sell all 918 cars—mainly because a lot of people who would have enjoyed it won't "get" this car for what it is. Just as I didn't—until I drove it.
As to styling...that's always in the eye of the beholder, but I do wonder if the better comparison isn't the 959 in that regard, as well? Both are Porsche supercars that look they way they do as a result of the tech they must clothe.

the 918 on the track looks great. No denying it.
It also has a great sound.
The novelty of the electrical gizmos is fun for now but what about later on? Betamax?
and if i didnt know any better, Jay Leno is taking a liking to Porsche...

The v8 is 4.6L w/608hp
The ferrari 458 speciale has a 597hp 4.5l v8.
