FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)--German sportscar-maker Porsche AG (POR3.XE) Friday said it has received more than 1,200 orders for its high-performance Carrera GT model.
"The project is an economic success for us," Porsche's Chief Executive Wendelin Wiedeking said in a statement.
Porsche said it has produced 1000 Carrera GT cars so far, which cost around EUR500,000 each. Around 50% of the cars have been sold in the U.S, it said.
Porsche produces the Carrera GT in its plant in Leipzig, Eastern Germany, where also its Cayenne sports utility vehicle is being build.
The company sold 222 Carrera GT units fiscal 2003-2004. Porsche is expected to release figures for fiscal year 2004-2005, which ended July 31, middle of September.
