back end camera
the RSR had a nice camera system from PMNA, pointing out the back, a bit more visibility, simple, nice. came on when the car turned on, small and did its job.
just curious if there are other camera systems that people are using for out the back of the car, maybe something that has a bit more technology or smaller, more compact?
just curious. pmna sells their system, just curious what else Is out there.

NHTSA threatens regularly to require cameras on passenger cars. There are lots of aftermarket options, some wired and others wireless. Most seem to have pretty big monitors, on the order of 7" or so.
Just do a Google search for back up cameras or rear view cameras. Back end cameras sounds a bit like a subset of girl watching.l

I recall seeing a system last year on some of the cars that provided visual cues as cars approached from behind (maybe on some of the Le Mans cars?). I think there was some radar or other telemetry involved because you got directional indications of approach (from left or right) as well as cues that increased in size and changed color as the approaching vehicle closed in. I think it was some kind of Bosch system. Maybe the Corvettes had it also?

And here it is - Pratt & Miller Collision Avoidance System. Pretty cool idea actually, combining a rear-view camera with a radar unit and some interesting software.

That system is sold by Bosch. It's about $10k. I have the info on it behind my desk. I've only seen it in 1 non Tudor/WEC car. It's a competitive advantage if no one else has it.

We looked into the Bosch CAS when were trying to mount a Daytona 24 effort. I believe the Gen 1 system which they don't sell any more was $10k. The upgrade is north of $20k (I have $25k in my mind) and was too rich for our blood. We spoke to several teams that have used it and opinion was mixed on its usefulness. Seemed the Am drivers liked it better than the Pro drivers. There aren't that many in use in IMSA.
From my brief experience in this year's 24, the camera in the Lambo sucked - especially in the night and the rain. Don't now if it was a cheapie after-market or factory but it was terrible. Not worth having.

I'm not really planning running it at night . I would be to improve visibility because of crappy plexi window + spoiler and lot's of faster cars on track (996 is becoming an old beast ... I don't even see 997 anymore where I drive. It's 991 or nothing as min spec it seems)
