Default So Which Oil?

I am on the Mobil 1 train, but I can't help but think about the number of specialty oil companies out there now, especially after attending PRI and speaking to a few of them. Anyone moved into that arena?

We use Motul 300V Competition (15 W50) in our cars and we are super happy! But I don't know if this is available in the U.S.

I'd run either Redline or Motul if you want the best possible protection in high heat, high stress situations. Ester based oils are unmatched in that situation. My old 964 cup always returned great UOA's on Redline 10w40…That said I do not have any longer term UOA history on the 996 yet…Right now I am using Millers 5w40 and will run it for 2104. Be careful with the "specialty" oil scene…Not convinced that they provide any real measurable advantage…stick with a reputable well known brand..and I imagine Mobil 1 would be just fine too.

Oil discussions are tough. Everyone has read different research and has a different opinion. Here's my $0.02

From my research Motul 300v is the benchmark. Other players like Gibbs and Redline both make outstanding products but for me in my street car the ability to go a little longer (2k miles is long change interval for me) was key with the 300v. Millers is trying hard to be right up there with 300v but there's not enough long term data available to prove that claim but I will say I ran their nanotechnology gear oil this past season and was very happy with it.

There are many terrific oils out there, it would be safe to say that any high quality race proven oil will treat you well…If you are splitting hairs you can drive yourself nuts trying to find that magical elixir…and with that...I hereby swear off all oil related discussions in the New Year!

So, the Motul. 15w50 not 10w40 ?

This is the one?

Thanks

Motul and Redline are both ester based…very very similar composition. 50 weight is not needed for the water cooled motor and can cause increase in oil temps and viscosity drag on the engine…use the 10w40 for sprint races, may want to increase viscosity to a 50 weight where you have high fuel dilution.

If choosing Redline is it the "racing" 15-40 the correct one?
Thanks

Redline "racing" oil is great stuff but has very low detergent levels…would need to change it out at 7-8 hours…the "street" oils are just as durable IMHO and can go 20-30 hours in racing conditions. Redline street is the equivalent of Motul…both are high in detergent levels. If you e-mail or call Redline and talk to Dave he can give you very specific advice…Great guy and Porsche racer/owner too.
