Yes Matt is right the string pots will give you flawed data.....
I mount them off of the lower control arm using a teardropped shaped bracket off of the bolt that the forward control arm mounts to the puck with.... I then use a clevis on the bottom of the shock pot attach it to that bracket. Up top i use a 30mm standoff mounted off of the top of the framerail next to the brake line bulkhead.... that ends up being right in line with the angle of the shock, and being on the control arm it isnt affected by the turning radius......
In back i use the same lower bracket and the same standoff up top in the shock tower.
I wish i had pics but I cant seem to hunt them down.....

Shock Pot photos
Here are some photos of the 06 997 street car I installed pots on last year. Since this is a street car, there is much more droop than on the Cup. I used 150 mm Penny and Giles pots. I'll include enough photos so you can see how I mounted them.
I measured the 996 Cup car today and there is much less droop and much less room to work. I'll use 100 mm P&G pots on this car. I measured the available shock travel from full droop and the fronts have about 80 mm travel and the rears closer to 70 mm. So, fitting brackets is somewhat critical because I'll need to be sure the pots never go their limit in either direction.

I've looked at a bunch of data from race teams I worked on over the last few years and it appears that most used the 150 mm pot, so I'm going to do that as well.

Guys, thanks for ALL the info. Question, does anyone know where the suspension travel harness connections are on the 2007 Cup? Wiring diagram shows a 6 wire connector.
Different Q regarding steering angle: In the MoTec monitoring screen, the steering wheel graphic only moves 90 degrees on screen despite the actual wheel turning 225 degrees. What am I missing here? (actual wheels are 16.7degrees at 225)

Two channels are needed. Steering wheel angle (225) and Steered angle (16.7) Just need to calibrate the sensor. Send me a PM.

I found that mounting the damper position sensors like pictured above results in twisting of the assembly as the damper moves through compression and rebound. It gave me flawed data. If you are using MoTeC, you'll want to install the damper position sensors on the ADL channels that have the higher A/D converers.

^^This is basically what I have planned on doing. It's an older car, so the bottom will be to the steel arm, but same idea.

I found the input harness that is prewired in my 07 Cup. When trying to activate the channels, I receive a notice, "analog voltage input 7 (8 9, 10) requires the 30 I/O option".
Can someone explain what this is telling me?

I believe this is an upgrade to the dash that allows the additional channels to log shock pots. I looked on the Motec website, but found info on the ADL3 (and that offers 52 I/O option), and I believe yours is ADL 2. Contact Joe Hullett - overboost at earthlink.net, he is the expert

I would zero them at ride height with driver in the car. After that I would determine what full droop is for reference.
I'm putting shock pots on my car and will run in a couple weeks. Looking forward to linking data and the adjustments to the shocks.

I zero at ride height with the car at the reference weight. You also need to know the motion ratios for your wheel movement and shock movement.
