996 Cup car Axle issues
I had an axle (blue) shear off this past weekend at the IRPCA PCA race at Miller on my 996 WC Cup Car.
I had blue axles on the car and replaced the one broken axle with a OEM black axle, that's all we could find at the track to get me up and running within 2 hours.
The black axle seem to fit properly and bolted right in but the tracking grove for the ABS pick up seems to be a little different design than the Blue Axle we removed from the car
The issues I had after replacing the blue axle with a black axle was the ABS braking was very erratic, it caused intermittent ice brake effect and made things very challenging during the race weekend.
I'm going to purchase a Blue axle to replace the broken one, ASAP. Does any know if it's ok to mix the different axle types or a no-no because of ABS issues.

Three Wheelin'
I'm wondering if the broken axle damaged the sensor on that upright. We swap out blue and black axles (in pairs though) on 996 cups all the time. If there was a difference in the axle notches, it would cause issues front to rear, which we have not seen. If you have data the monitors all 4 wheel speeds, I'd check that defore and after the broken axle

They should be replaced in pairs. They are also to be used in the same direction for their life so if you keep the unbroken one it should be used on the same side only...something to do with metal and how they get stressed in one rotational direction only.
Blue and blacks should interchange. From memory the Blues are about $6800 per pair and the blacks (street axels) are only about $1500.
No idea how much weaker the black ones are in a race application.

Thanks to all for your input, I have found a set of used Blue Axles from a fellow Rennlister and will replace both axles with the matched used set. I plan on keeping the good Blue axle that's on my car as a spare back-up, the Black axle will be go back into storage.
I have asked my shop (Tatum Racing) to look at the ABS sensor to ensure it wasn't damaged when the axles split. The axle shaft actually split in two just inside the outer boot, luckily it didn't damage the suspension or under carriage.

Lunch on Friday at Bothy's for sure.
We didn't end up using your turbo axle, it didn't have the ABS pick-up track on it so we ended up getting a used axle from Potter's Shop.
Hopefully the rental rate is not to high for unwrapping and rewrapping your axle, it's still new & shiny and on the shelf.

The stock grease in the blacks will quickly liquify when run at race temp, you'll soon have black streaks all over your wheels, and the axles won't last. At a bare minimum you'll want to repack with Krytox or Neo.

that liquifying just happened to me this last weekend with the normal grease used in the turbo axles.....only on loaded side though which I guess makes sense.
repacking all with Neo.
Speaking of that, are the axles swappable side to side?

Be careful with krytox, nasty stuff, wear gloves at all times, you don't want it on your skin.
I personally wouldn't swap axles side to side, and I mark my spares for side. Note also that Porsche wants you to bed in new axles by running them at partial load.
