Default Annunciator Light

Ok so I feel kind of stupid just asking this question, I should know, but the big red light on the center console in a 2000 cup. Exactly what does it indicate? Based on all my older Pcars I thought it was oil pressure. I missed one session this weekend figuring out that it did come on to indicate high coolant temp, I ran two sessions back to back, and the light came on on grid. Oil and Alt were fine so I parked it until it cooled down and light went out. Looked it up in the parts manual I had on hand and it wasn't helpful. I found an obscure Porsche reference to "system indicator lamp" Does it indicate anything else? low oil pressure? oil temp etc?... anyone have a manual for an early cup I can get a copy of?

thx

This happened to me at my first race in this car as well.

There are no fans for the radiators up front so you can not stand and idle on grid.

Turn off the motor and fire it up at 1 or 2 minutes before going on track especially in hot weather. As soon as you are moving the air flow will shut the light off.

Usually triggered by water temp when leaving the engine at idle for too long. You can simply push the the reset button on the steering wheel to stop the warning light and the temperature normally go back down quickly when you are on track.

Reset button on the steering wheel of a 2000 Cup? I have not seen that! Not on a 2002 either.

Concur that the light illuminates mostly when idling too long. My dash has a warning light and high level alert set at a lower threshold temperature than the central warning light and getting underway and pushing some air through the radiators cools the car soon.

contact PMNA, they will send you manual for your car.
I have a PDF of a 2005 manual sent to me by another Rennlister if you want a link to that I can send it to you.

Sorry I didn't realized it was for a 2000 Cup. This warning also goes on sometime if I added water/prestone right before. Seems like it happen if the system detect a pressure decrease when the valve release excess water.
