Default How not to end the first lap in qualifying..

Only damage was to the vinyl. Racing a car with 3 good tires and 1 really old tire is.... interesting.

Looks like the tube came out of your tire.

NICE wrap on that car BTW!

Same thing happened to my friend at Mosport going down turn 2 few weeks ago with his Cup car on Michelin N1 slicks ! Is this a common problem with these tires ???

Don't think it's any more common than other slicks. I've been through about 12 sets of them since I got the car in March and this is the first one that's gone down.

I am sorry about your mishap, but I have a question for you.
I noticed you were running Michelins, do you have some different lap times using the Pirelli slicks vs Michelins at the same track?
I have only run Yokes and Pirelli's, and I was wondering if the Michelins were faster than the Pirelli's?

mike, was the flat at TH couple of weekend ago on a sunday?
if so, i have the same cut on that same side, rear left. maybe we ran same line and hit same crap?
i heard noises, but i kept going. luckily some one caused a red flag and we stopped. when restarting i lost enough air i can FEEL it. so pitted....

this was not related to the OTHER incident i had...

Ya, I've ran the Pirelli slicks and Michelins on the same track (different days). However, in the Pirelli Cup series the tires we use on the front of the 2005-2009 cars are slightly wider than the Michelins. With that setup the overall grip is the same for the first few laps. The Pirelli's seem to lose grip after the first 5-6 laps, then lose a lot more on each additional heat cycle. The Michelins are really good for their entire first heat cycle (assuming a short qualifying session or a short sprint race). They lose grip much more gradually than the Pirellis over multiple heat cycles, but do seem to be more pressure sensitive.

Basically, if you put them both on for a qualifying session I think they'd be damn near identical (perhaps Michelins being a tiny tiny bit faster overall).

If you run 1 set for a weekend the Michelins are definitely superior-- assuming they last that long for you. I've corded a set of front Michelins in a test day but can normally get them to last a club race weekend (2 qual sessions (1 or 2 hot laps each), 2 25-30 minute races). If I remember correctly the Michelins are also about $100-200 per set cheaper than the Pirellis.

mikymu /mooty,

Nah, this wasn't from the NCRC weekend. It was last Sunday w/ SCCA for their regional. There was some contact in Turn 1 in the race before our qualifying session and I think I ran over some SRF bits on the out lap.

It's better to laugh since at least new tires make the car faster. Dropping $6k for a new set of BBS wheels that have absolutely no impact on speed or lap times make me cry!
