GMG's Sofronas has epic battle with Factory Porsche Pilot, Pat Long @ WC Opener
Congrats to Pat Long for sweeping the podium in both GT races, held at St. Petersburg this past weekend.
Cant wait to see the broadcast of the 2nd St. Petersburg Race.
James Sofronas of GMG RACING had an epic battle with Porsche Factory Driver, Pat Long. James pulled out a 4 second lead by working his way through traffic. Unfortunately, a lapped touring car positioned himself on the track in such a way that it impeded James progress. Long, was able to get by with one lap to go, and went on to win.
Cant believe they didnt show the pass.
The Versus broadcast will hopefully show in-car footage.
EXCELENT job to GMG RACING and James Sofronas who posted the FASTEST race lap of the weekend with a 1:15.74 besting Porsche Factory driver Pat Long's time of 1:15.86, on his way to capturing a 3rd and a 2nd for the weekend, putting him in 2nd place in the Championship Standings heading into Long Beach
Watch it here....................................when it gets reposted.

I find these big field touring car races more interesting than the technical races where it's like a top flight pro tennis match just waiting for an unforced error to determine the winner and hours of flawless play that somehow becomes ordinary and tedious.
Race 2 is up on the World Challenge site:
http://world-challengetv.com/#/races/323 ... scroll to the 15 minute mark for the formation lap to a good, old-fashioned standing start ...
(note there's a 15 year old in there ... what a start!)

Just watching the st pete race 1 replay and at about the 35 minute mark there is a crash involving one car (touring car I think) against the wall and 2 other cars hit it while he was stopped. It looked like the driver of the first car into the wall was halfway out of the window climbing out when the other cars impacted him!!
The announcers are not mentioning anything about it...does anyone know what happened there?

Thanks Mike!
In-car video should be up on www.world-challengetv.com after they broadcast the race this coming weekend on Versus.
We will have some to post as well on the GMG website.
It was fun running with Pat for sure.......damn lapped traffic got me in the 2nd race but that's racing.......Pat even told me on the podium that I got screwed!
Long Beach should be a blast though......looking forward to it.
