1990 Cups had the small Aero mirrors. These were outlawed due to too little surface area. All the French Cups ran with standard aero mirrors.

Wise move Ron as they can only go up in value and you get the fun of driving them!

As for the location of the chassis production numbers, one is on the rear horizontal shelf underneath the rear glass. It is where you would find rear speakers (if the car had them).

The other place is in the middle of the dash beneath the heater levers. You have to take off part of the dashboard padding to see it.

The one on the rear shelf is very easy to see

There may be other places that I am not aware of.

Thank you, I found the one on the rear tray over the weekend, so that one, at least, is in the same location on both 964 and 993.

It's interesting how things change. I have car 9033 from the 1990 first-run Cup production. I bought it as a working racecar (for the 2001 UK Porsche Cup) - it pains me to say, in the context of this thread, that it probably had the Wagenpass with it at the time, but I certainly can't find it now. Since that series it's been modified extensively in pursuit of retaining competitiveness - including plastic panels everywhere, plastic glazing, extended cage, ABS removed and larger brakes, 3.8 conversion on Motec etc. It's fast, it's light - it's even won a few races - but I expect I've destroyed all of its "collector" value. Restoring it to original condition now would not only require huge amounts of work, you'd need many "Hen's teeth" parts that I've discarded along the way. I've had a lot of fun with it - in fact I'm presently jumping through the hoops needed to road register it in the UK, for the hell of it - but I expect it's worth less than a nice condition vanilla RS, despite the astronomical sums I've spent on it along the way. Amusingly, in order to register it I had to get Porsche to authenticate its origin, so I could have an appropriate registration number - which did get me thinking about collectible value. Does anyone here know anything of the original history of 9033 - is there a reference thread (excuse my laziness in not searching)?

Mind you, I had a left-hooker 993RS touring that I tracked half to death in the 90s then sold for peanuts (£26k from memory!). So I'm patently an idiot.

Nah you did the right thing. To the extent these things ever become collectible in a meaningful way, you or whoever owns it will track down the bits and bring it back. If not, then it gave you and whoever comes next a lot of pleasure.

Worht noting that plenty of hardcore collector racecars went through a phase when they were just obsolete and worn out. The greatest barn find story I've ever heard happened this summer when Ferrari collector Tom Shaughnessy recognized the rusted tube frame of a Ferrari 340 America factory racecar lurking within the hulk of a fiberglass Devin body on ebay. Not that these cars will ever reach those lofty valuations. http://www.sportscarmarket.com/articles/archives/948

Here in the U.S. the porsche club quickly created a class for the cup cars which removed the motivation to substantially modify them. But there are still plenty here which went down your path.

I have the L series no. 48 and my pal has 50(tip). I too am thinking of road registering it in UK as the track is only 12 miles away. Any tips 964 Cup?

I have been lucky tracing the history of my car in the last few weeks. No Wagenpass yet but all the race results and pictures.

First 35 Cups were used in the Porsche German Cup series. The signal green car 07 was the green car that Colin Belton is restoring. There are still alot of the German Teams still racing so you can sometimes get info from them.

Some interesting viewing of 1990 races last night threw up a few surprises and leads on the 007 car.

Max Moritz had a signal green Cup no.7 driven by V. Columbo. Did he not have TV series in the US? ;O)

No tips on road registration yet - I'll let you know when I've done it. At the moment the DVLA seem entirely unable to send me a V55/5; which you can't get from the post office, so I'm in their hands.
