Congratulations!! Did you have to commit to running one or more of the IMSA races or are you planning to use the car just for club racing?

Hard to beleive that you cannot order a fuel cell installed directly from the factory!? They are very happy to see sell you one after the fact however.

The goal is probably to reduce their costs and the selling price of the car.

I ordered a premiere fuel cell myself for my 2009 new Cup car (90L). I would be curious to know what is the proportion of the Cup cars going on the US tracks with and without a fuel cell. I was convinced to install it for security purpose but I'm still wondering if it is really the right thing to do.

I think that you lose the fuel level indicator unless you install an aftermarket sensor and you need to use the specific connector with your fuel jugs to fuel the car in the mid-front opening instead of normal fuel cap position...

If you've got the $ and the right phone number, they'll sell you one. it's not that clandestine of a brotherhood anymore...porsche was offering 09s for sale all the way into august because they made a few too many.

I don't think it's at ALL worth the $15K, you have to hack up the car and it does not add much to the resale value. I would only install if it you really need to run it in IMSA. The fuel cell thing is why I quit IMSA and why I don't run a few of their races.

My car does not have one. I'm sure some of the World Challenge guys have them, but I was suprised to learn that it wasn't required.

One advantage I heard of for fuel cells is that the car isn't disturbed by moving fuel in the tank when not full. Is that making any noticeable difference ?

That is odd!!!! I had to get a clause put in for SCCA GT2 to run without a cell, and WC is SCCA's pro racing.

I thought the same. I spoke with a friend who ran in WC and he said his 997 didn't have one either. His recommendation for my purpose, PCA, was to save the $$$.

By the way Mike, any photos of your new car? Sorry for the hijack...

IMSA requires the fuel cell for insurance purposes but in WC, we do not need to run a fuel cell and it's a nice savings.
Having a cell does allow you to use all the fuel in the tank, more so than the stock tank. Our WC cars needed additional foam so we could vary our fuel load but at the same time make sure we didn't have any pick up issues, which I did have during qualifying this year at Laguna.
On the other hand, we have not had any problems with the Premier cells and if you need a cell or want to do endurance racing, they are very nice to have!

MKlaskin,

You should bring your WC Porsche out for some races next year!
2010 should be very interesting in WC.
Lot's of changes, many to be announced tomorrow at PRI.
