Default 993 Cup Tires

Wondering what tires you guys with 993 Cups are using and how you like them. I have been using Michelins, but found out today they are discontinuing the rear size I have been using. The only option they offer is to use the 996/997 Cup Blue front tire for the rear but that tire is also going to be phased out this year. I have used the Pirelli, but found the Michelin had better grip. Also, I found the supply of Pirellis to be erratic. Any thoughts or suggestions??
Thanks,
Richard

My suggestion is you sell me your 993 Cup, so you don't have to worry about any more tire issues (ha ha)!

I was not aware they were phasing out the Mich. Blue - what is now available from Michelin for the 996/7Cup? (see I am of no help at all).

I think he was probably running the 27/65/18 which is not a blue, but the original black customer tire. Although a perfect size, it is an awful rear tire on a 911, but a good front tire in other 911 applications. Blue Cup tires are still the current offering from Michelin here in the US.

The 27/68/18 "Cup rear" will be too big for the narrow body. I would suggest looking at Dunlops which have a size that will work for you in a 660 profile. Hoosier has also come out with a new offering of slicks in a variety of sizes and you may want to try them.

Hoosier's sizes are:
25/65/18f
28/68/18r

A guy I run with runs Yoko's on his 993 cup and loves them. I'm switching to Yoko's on my car as well.

The 993 looks wider than the 996, I would have thought the gt3 cup tires would fit.

I don't think Blue front will be phased out this year from what I heard from Michelin US and UK. The rear will be replaced by the Green sticker tire, but the front will still be blue (as they are using in Carrera Cup in Europe and the UK). But Green will still probably be too wide for you.

Thanks for the input and help. I will check out the Yoks, that might be a good alternative. When I spoke with Jackson Motorsports they told me that the "Blues" were being phased out during this year and the "Greens" would replace them. They didn't give me any more information than that.

John - Sorry, but I love the 993 too much to sell it - but I do think I will sell the 996 Cup, if you hear of anyone looking for a really nice one (only has a total of 30 hours on the car from new).

I looked on the Bob Woodman website for Yoko slicks and the sizes that fit my 993 cup are 230/650-18 front and 280/650-18. However, Yoko has a notice listed that the 280/650-18 is meant to be run as a front tire and will not take the load when run as a rear tire on banked tracks. If run on non-banked tracks they recommend and increase in pressure of 1 to 2 lbs.

Has anyone here used the 280/650-18 on the rear of a 993 cup or any 993 for that matter and what has been your experience?
