Sach's 3-ways for 996
On my maiden voyage with the car at Sebring, aside from can pressures, I didn't use the bump/rebound adjustability on the shocks. For those of you running the adjustables (Specifically the stock Sachs dampers) how much do you utilize the adjustability and do you tend to make big adjustments initially or minor adjustments?
Coming from my older 911 that was running Billstein non-adjustables, I'm not used to or well versed in the adjustability so I set them to neutral, adjusted can pressures and did the rest through sway bars.

Pedro,
Though not an answer to your question.
The Sachs are part of the Carrera Cup specification, but far from the optimal dampers for the 996CUP. So if you run under a regulation that gives you free hands to change dampers to whatever you like to, I suggestion you do. The difference is quite noticeable both in speed but also in "driver friendliness".

Peter, call me when you have time. I do not know the specifics of the Sachs shocks, but I can give you a lot of good SOP advice on shock adjustments.

Hey Peter,
If they are the Factory shocks for your car, they are only 2 way asjustable...Not 3way....I do believe the rules state any 2 way adjustable shock can be used in GTC3.
The factory shocks are very limited in the overall adjustability and performance they offer, but nontheless still offer some improvement to handling when adjusted properly. There is no "magic setting" anyone can give you, you will need to identify any handling issues you may have then adjust accordingly. What are you having trouble with??

If you have decided to upgrade the dampers on your Cup I would strongly advise you to investigate the upper end Sachs dampers. They are technically superior to the brands mentioned in numerous ways (the Moton and JRZ are based on the older Koni design) while the high end Sachs is a true through rod damper. They have much less pressure variance in performance, less heat induced variational performance, less hysteresis and enable true independent adjustment of low and high speed circuits.
Also, the Sachs are developed in conjunction with Porsche MS in Germany and are used on the top ALMS teams (Lizards and Farnbacher)
Sorry if this reads like a sales pitch (Iam not and agent of Sachs or anything). I just have done a fair bit of homework on the subject.

2 way adjustable 996 Cup dampers
Pedro, I have attached some basic information on the standard 996 2 way adjustable dampers as well as a basic instruction manual for setting up the car in different handling conditions. I have one more document, but it's bigger than the site restriction on the car set up. If you like to have it, send me your e-mail and I'll forward that to you as well. Hope these help...
