Default Having some fun with a GT2RS in my 996 cup

Just had a two day event for Australian Porsche Clubs at The Bend Motorsport Park here in South Aus. Although the weather was very hot all weekend, it was great fun playing with the newer GT cars on track. The GT2RSs were around 1-3 seconds per lap slower than the 996 cup, which is outstanding considering road tyres and driven to and from the track. There was also a 996 RSR lapping approx 1.5 sec quicker than my 996 cup but sadly the footage was lost. Amazed at how capable the 996 cup is for a near 20 year old race car!

that is your driving skill and not your 996 cup being fast compared to the GT2RS

Nice driving; That was all you. Equal drivers, the 2RS should easily be 3 seconds faster on a 2 minute track.

That noise while braking is soooo familiar to me, yellow Pagids?

Very nice driving indeed

Thanks all for watching and for the flattering comments. Whilst I’m feeling comfortable in the car there’s still a lot more in it. Might be time to go race some 997s. The car felt a bit sluggish on the main straight due to the heat, around 5km slower than normal, but the 2RS would have been a bit down also. The 2RS is approx 30 km/h quicker down the main straight, which is 1km long. I was lapping in the 2:01s and an older gentleman (very experienced ex Porsche racer) was lapping 2:02 in his 2RS (different car to the one in the video). I still think the slicks provide a huge advantage on those long sweeping corners that more than makes up for the HP and aero mods of a 2RS on street rubber. However, it’s unlikely I’ll ever have a go in a 2RS to personally compare the performance between the two.

For interest’s sake, there was also a GT2RS Clubsport running 1:54s and a 991.1 GT3R doing 1:51s. A 991.2 Cup car pro driven is in the high 1:40s at this track in Carrera Cup.

Thanks. They are Ferodo DS1.11...first track day with them. Didn’t really notice the noise while out there but quite distracting on video. Great pads though and much cheaper than the pagids!

From the video it's pretty clear that your driving reeled in the 2RS. You drove well, used the whole track and hit the markers all the time. Can't say the same of the 2RS.

Well done! Enjoyed vid

Fun to see how much you reduced the gap in the braking zone and turns!
